    Animal Care League is looking for an experienced animal caregiver with supervisory experience to join our team in the role of Animal Care Manager (ACM). The ACM acts as an advocate for the animals in our care and works to ensure that they are comfortable during their temporary stay with us. The ACM uses their attention to detail to ensure proper sanitation for herd health, identifies enrichment needs and actively reduces stress among the population, and ensures that each animal is receiving the care to support their individual needs. Additionally, the ACM manages the animal care team (staff of 10 and volunteers) through coaching, teamwork and leading by example.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    ​Working directly with the Operations Director to build, train and retain an amazing team of animal caregivers that work with integrity and efficiency

    Working directly with the Volunteer Manager to onboard, train and retain the general shelter support volunteers

    Daily oversight and direction of the animal care team including morning huddles, floor management, daily communications, check outs, etc.

    Assisting with development and implementation of training programs, stays up to date on current trends and best practices

    Oversight of day to day care and husbandry of the cats, dogs and rabbits housed in the shelter

    Cleaning and sanitizing animal areas/ensuring that all animal areas are sanitized and spot cleaned daily

    Ensuring that animals are receiving daily medications through daily check outs and oversight of animal care team

    Supports other operations team members with intake as needed, assists animal control and police with impoundment of stray animals

    Ensuring that supplies are stocked, keeping inventory, ordering supplies

    Ensuring that the shelter remains clean and organized at all times, that common areas are free from clutter/donations

    Ensuring that all animals are properly marked and documented per policy and procedure

    Communicates up regarding health or behavior issues developing among the population

    Conducting weekly animal weights and logs

    Updating animal care team feeding boards

    Assisting with administering monthly/booster vaccinations and preventative care (flea/tick/heartworm) as needed

    Assisting the adoption team with adopter meet and greets/dog to dog evaluations, as needed

    Filling in at intake/community resource desk as needed

    Minimum Requirements:

    A passion for lifesaving and motivation to advocate for animals in need

    High School Diploma or GED

    Minimum 2 years of brick and mortar animal care/husbandry experience in a shelter or boarding environment with a population of over 25 animals

    Minimum 2 years of direct supervisory experience

    Strong understanding of basic care and behavior of domesticated animals

    Strong attention to detail and multi tasking skills

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    Experience working in a team environment

    Experience working with animals under distress

    Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays

    Fear Free Certification is a huge plus or willingness to complete certification within 3 weeks of employment

    Vet Tech experience is a huge plus!

    Bi-lingual English/Spanish is a huge plus!

    Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

    Ability to lift and transport items weighing up to 65 pounds.

    Ability to handle animals effectively and humanely.

    Have a high level of manual dexterity, the ability to bend and squat, and the ability to stand and sit for significant periods of time.

    Be comfortable working with animals who may be stressed or who have experienced trauma.

    Ability to maintain composure and emotional maturity in a high stress environment

    Exposure to disinfectant solutions, zoonotic diseases, and loud noises.

    Subject to animal bites and scratches.

    This is a full-time position with a salary of $35,000-$40,000 depending on experience. The interview process for this position includes a hands on working interview as well as 1-2 levels of in person interviews with key management.
