  • Responsibilities

    IndyHumane is seeking a compassionate and dependable individual with a

    passion for animal welfare to join our team as an Animal Foster Care Intern

    for the Winter of 2024. In this role, you will assist the Foster Care Manager

    in supporting the daily operations of IndyHumane’s Foster Care Program.

    Key responsibilities include coordinating with foster families, managing

    program logistics, and ensuring effective communication to enhance the care

    of animals in foster homes. This position requires strong organizational, time

    management, and communication skills to help further IndyHumane’s

    mission of improving animal welfare across central Indiana.

    Qualifications:

    • Current college student

    • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred

    • 15-20 hours per week availability

    General responsibilities include:

    • Assist with daily appointments, including booster vaccinations, foster

    animal pickups and drop-offs, preparing vaccines, dewormers, and

    medications, gathering supplies for foster families, and setting up

    kennels for returning animals.

    • Respond to foster families' emails in a timely manner.

    • Conduct check-ins with animals currently in foster homes.

    • Contact fosters when vaccines/medications are due.

    • Sort through donations for foster care supplies and place them in their

    correct locations within the foster care department.

    • Help to maintain accurate and up to date records within Pet Point,

    IndyHumane’s data management system.

    • Willingness to learn shelter animal husbandry and basic animal

    handling skills

    • Energetic, hardworking, and a team player who thrives in a fast-paced

    environment

    • Love of animals

    Other details:

    This position is unpaid. Hours are flexible and may include occasional

    evening or weekend events if the candidate is able to attend.

    We are willing to take the time to train individuals who have the skills listed

    previously, even if they haven’t been in a shelter or veterinary medicine

    background before.
