    Job Purpose

    Responsible for communicating the benefits of Appalachian Timber’s products to drive sales. The Sales representative will serve as the point of contact between the business and its prospects or clients and have a range of responsibilities including identifying and educating prospective customers while supporting existing clients with information and assistance that relates to products and services. This position is responsible for identifying new customer leads and the ability to network, build relationships with clients and persuade others to purchase our products.

    Principal (Essential) Duties

    • Present, promote, and sell products/services using solid arguments to existing and prospective customers.

    • Generate new sales leads utilizing cold calling, search engines, market research, etc.

    • Services existing accounts and establishes new accounts by planning and organizing daily work schedule to call on existing or potential sales outlets and other trade factors.

    • Responsible for scheduling orders to customers satisfaction.

    • Basic knowledge of technical drawings and specifications.

    • Adjusts content of sales presentations by studying the type of sales outlet or trade factor.

    • Focuses sales efforts by studying existing and potential volume of dealers.

    • Estimate projects/bids.

    • Initiate quotes according to sales/inventory data.

    • Keeps management informed by submitting activity and results reports, such as daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly and annual territory analyses.

    • Monitors competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, and merchandising techniques.

    • Recommends changes in products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.

    • Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing reports, and making recommendations to management.

    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

    • Provides historical records by maintaining records on area and customer sales.

    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

    • Perform cost-benefit and needs analysis of existing/potential customers to meet their needs.

    • Establish, develop, and maintain positive business and customer relationships.

    • Achieve agreed upon sales targets and outcomes within schedule.

    • Coordinate sales effort with team members.

    • Analyze the territory/market’s potential, track sales and status reports.

    • Supply management with reports on customer needs, problems, interests, and competitive activities.

    Secondary Duties

    • Complete special projects as required.

    Experience/ Education Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in marketing, promotions, advertising sales, or business administration preferred.

    • Demonstrated related experience may be substituted for preferred education.

    • Industry experience preferred.

    • Familiarity with sales software.

    • Related experience in any field that requires persuading and dealing with people.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

    Working Conditions/ Physical Demands:

    • Travel a minimum of 25% to inside and outside customer sites beyond the home office.

    • Perform light work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force infrequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to move objects.

    • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity; kneeling, standing, walking, crouching, stooping, reaching and other similar tasks requiring physical activity.

    • Operate a computer, copier, printer, fax, and telephone.

    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
