    Summary

    Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill Gold’s Aquatics objectives. This role reports to the Gold's Gym General Manager and Aquatics Head Coach. Oversight and management of functions of the Aquatics Department including aquatic safety, hazardous materials, pool mechanics, swim lessons, private swim lessons, swim team, lifeguarding and lap swim (indoor and outdoor) and any additional Gold’s Aquatics specialty classes.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs Aquatic personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
    2. Manages swim lesson program and is responsible for revenue targets.

    Develops and monitors the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

    Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in the swim lesson program, and consistently grows the current program.

    Schedules swim lesson classes and instructors.

    Makes audits, observes lessons, makes necessary group moves for swimmers.

    Primary point person for all customer inquiries related to swim lessons.

    Communicates to swim lesson participants, parents and guardians, and is present during all swim lessons to ensure program meets Gold’s Aquatics standards.

    1. Directly responsible for proper maintenance of pools.

    Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and Gold’s Aquatics health and safety regulations.

    Secures and schedules pool facilities.

    Perform audits of pool systems and equipment.

    Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

    Performs and/or facilitates pool repairs as needed.

    1. Establishes new Aquatic program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

    2. Creates and schedules swim team practices and meets.

    3. Assess Aquatics program success and assists in the development and implementation of new programs and outdoor pool coaching.

    4. Schedules lifeguards

    5. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

    6. Assists in the marketing and distribution of Aquatic program information.

    7. Performs Aquatics inventory, equipment orders for swim team and/or swim lessons including retail, swim team, pool chemicals, parts for repair.

    8. Makes recommendations of products to stock and restock to ownership.

    9. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Job Requirements

    Prior experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED Instructor Certification National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator Certification

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

    Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.

    Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

    Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.

    Knowledge of contract documents and specifications.

    Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.

    Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

    Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

    Records maintenance skills.

    Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.

    Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

    Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards.

    Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools and public baths.

    Ability to recruit, train, and certify student lifeguards and others.

    Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating a large, multi-pool aquatic facility.

    Skills in program planning and development.

    Knowledge of certification standards in area of specialty.

    Knowledge of budget preparation, cost estimating, monitoring, and fiscal management principles and procedures.

    Working Conditions and Physical Effort

    Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

    Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

    Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
