    The Nurse Educator/Quality Specialist is responsible for identifying, developing, facilitating and evaluating educational activities for staff. Ensuring and maintaining clinical standards and providing quality health-related services for Arc of Monroe County service recipients.  Provides medication certification training and other health-related training to employees. They will also ensure the health and safety of the individuals that the Arc of Monroe supports by conducting programmatic reviews, targeted reviews, and internal audits for the purpose of identifying, managing, and responding to medical/quality issues. 

     

    *   Provides health related training for employees; including needs assessment, curricula development, presenting to and facilitating groups, evaluating materials and the learning process and appropriate documentation.

     *  Delivers the CPR/FA and OPWDD medication administration training. Completes medication administration practicums at residential sites as needed to support Nursing Team.

    *  Operates trainee registration and confirmation system. Maintains statistics and records of attendance. Creates partnerships with supervisors to address ‘no shows’.

    *  Conduct programmatic reviews of medical documentation to ensure best practices and compliance with medical standards

    *  Conduct internal audits and targeted reviews of medical charts and medication notes/assessments for compliance with regulatory requirements and best medical practices at the frequency designated by the organization (mo, qrtly, annually)

    *  Review various Arc medical and medication management/administration policies and procedures to ensure best practice

    *  Provides documentation to the Director of Nursing (DON) or designee that identifies trends and makes recommendations for improvement to nursing services.

    *  Randomly reviews documentation of nurse on call to ensure residential RN awareness and follow-up.

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    • BASIC Outlook skills as evidenced by creating and sending messages, working with address books, message handling, creating and using personal folders, scheduling appointments, working with meeting requests and managing tasks.
    • INTERMEDIATE Microsoft Word skills as evidenced by the ability to perform all of the basic functions as well as create moderately complex documents containing tables and graphs, and ability to mail merge documents, apply page setup functions (margins, page numbers, footers, headers), create an index and/or table of contents, use search & replace, print labels and envelopes.
    • BASIC Excel skills as evidenced by the ability to use workbooks, create simple formulas, insert and delete data, create and edit charts, filter and sort lists, and format data.
    • INTERMEDIATE Microsoft PowerPoint skills as evidenced by the ability to create and save a presentation, add titles, edit and delete slides, reordering slides, applying slide masters, checking spelling, and adding clip art; as well as use and print notes, changing color schemes, changing fonts, bullets, slide backgrounds; adding a table, changing a slide layout, adding a chart, creating organizational charts, and search & replace.

     

    OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

    • Previous experience with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.

    • Knowledge of all standards and regulations governing health related services.

    • Establish relationships with and influence networks of others whose participation and cooperation is needed for success with programs and actions; and over whom he/she has no formal authority.

    • Clear understanding of adult learning and the role it plays in facilitating learning.

    • Demonstrated time and project management experience required.

    • Skilled at multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities and deliverables.

    • Highly creative and innovative.

    • Very good working knowledge of basic computer skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)

    • Must have excellent stand–up delivery, facilitation, and course design skills that drive key learning outcomes and motivate application beyond the classroom.

    • Must be able to create/adapt customized training/learning programs.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Standing 40% of the day. Walking 10% of the day.  Sitting 50% of the day.
    • Normal office environment
    • Primarily sedentary work with the need to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
    • Visual acuity necessary to prepare and analyze information, view a computer terminal, and determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

      

    WORKING CONDITIONS, POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    • This position works to ensure people we support achieve success which requires maintaining a continuously flexible work schedule which could include some evenings, weekends and working during inclement weather and overtime as necessary.
    • May be occasionally exposed to individuals who have the potential to carry a communicable disease or blood borne pathogen

    Required Experience

     

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    RN plus two years’ experience in the human service field. One year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. Prior training/teaching experience in related field a plus.

     

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

    • Current RN licensure in the State of New York
