    Job Description

    This Position is Contingent with Contract Award – Role is based on the Coast of Africa.

    The Area Radiation Officer would represent International SOS on this US government facility. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations and practices within a specified area, overseeing radiation safety programs, monitoring exposure levels, and providing training to staff on safe handling and usage of radioactive materials. This position is crucial for maintaining a safe work environment and protecting personnel from potential radiation hazards.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • ​​​​​​ Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal radiation safety regulations and standards.
    • Conduct regular assessments and monitoring of radiation levels in specified areas, maintaining accurate records of exposure and safety data.
    • Develop, implement, and manage radiation safety programs, policies, and procedures to promote a safe working environment.
    • Provide training sessions and resources for staff on proper radiation safety practices, equipment handling, and emergency procedures.
    • Investigate and report any radiation-related incidents or accidents, recommending corrective actions and preventive measures.
    • Work closely with health and safety committees, regulatory agencies, and other departments to ensure comprehensive radiation protection measures.
    • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of radiation detection equipment to ensure optimal performance.
    • Conduct periodic audits and inspections of facilities to assess compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements/Certifications:

    • Previous experience in radiation safety, health physics, or a related field.
    • Strong understanding of radiation safety regulations, hazardous materials handling, and risk assessment protocols.
    • Professional certification such as the Certified Health Physicist (CHP) or equivalent from recognized organizations (e.g., the American Board of Health Physics) may be required or preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

    Education Required:

    • Completion of specialized training courses in radiation safety, emergency response, and regulatory compliance (e.g., courses offered by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists).

    Physical Requirements:

    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
    • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
    • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 25 lbs.

    Other Special Qualifications:

    • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
    • Valid US Passport with at least 6 months before expiration date. Must maintain a current passport during your stay.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance. Applicants with current clearances are preferred.
    • Must be able to relocate for the duration of the project.
    • Must be able to read, write and speak English to effectively communicate.

    Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
