Cedar Park Med is seeking a compassionate and skilled Art Therapist to join our healthcare team. The Art Therapist will provide therapeutic interventions to patients, helping improve their mental, emotional, and social well-being through creative expression. This position requires a deep understanding of therapeutic art practices, patient assessment, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
Schedule: Day shift, 5 hours per day, 2 days per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and evaluate patient needs and interests in relation to their recreational and social adjustment.
- Develop and implement individualized art therapy plans to enhance patients' physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
- Conduct individual and group therapy sessions , using art as a tool for communication and healing.
- Assist patients in leisure activities to engage the mind, body, and spirit, fostering adjustment to life with injury, illness, or disability.
- Analyze patient behaviors and progress , reporting findings to the treatment team.
- Utilize therapeutic de-escalation techniques for patients who may be aggressive or experiencing crisis situations.
- Maintain accurate documentation in medical records and provide progress reports to the treatment team.
- Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, social workers, and therapists to support patient treatment and discharge planning.
- Recommend, request, and maintain art therapy supplies and equipment.
- Supervise students and volunteers participating in the art therapy program.
- Participate in departmental training, in-services, and other professional development activities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Art Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Limited Permit in Art Therapy required at the time of appointment.
- Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) certification required within two years of appointment.
- Experience working with psychiatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care patients is highly preferred.
- Ability to manage patients with behavioral challenges , including those who may be aggressive or potentially violent.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
