Our client, a rapidly growing cannabis company in Greenfield, CA is seeking an Assistant Controller to account for the large cultivation facilities and managing financial operations and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. This role involves overseeing cultivation accounting processes and operational analysis while adhering to stringent cannabis industry standards.
**This is a hybrid role near Monterey, CA.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Assist with month-end close processes, including journal entries, reclassifications, and accruals.
- Perform variance analysis and operational cost reviews.
- Prepare cost accounting reports for the various cultivation facilities
- Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory reconciliations and month-end physical counts.
- Address discrepancies and ensure inventory accuracy across facilities.
- Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal cannabis regulations (e.g., IRS Section 280E compliance).
- Implement robust internal controls to mitigate risks and prevent errors or fraud.
- Operational Support:
- Collaborate with warehouse staff to resolve inventory inaccuracies.
- Provide financial insights for decision-making regarding capital projects and cultivation efficiency.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise accounts payable personnel and train staff on accounting procedures.
- Support sales teams with budget preparation and reporting needs.
- Special Projects:
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving processes and reducing costs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA preferred but not required).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public/private accounting, preferably in manufacturing or agriculture industries.
- Proficiency in Sage or similar accounting software; ERP knowledge a plus
- Advanced skills in Excel and familiarity with cost accounting principles.
- Experience with consolidations, intercompany transactions, and tax compliance preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of cannabis industry regulations and tax laws (e.g., IRS Section 280E).
- Experience with inventory management systems and job costing in manufacturing settings.
Additional Information
- Travel may be required up to 15%.
Compensation: $130,000-145,000 plus a bonus and full benefits
