    Salary Range:$160,000.00 To $180,000.00 Annually

    ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

    We are a full-service international real estate company, and are seeking a proactive and creative problem-solving Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing the day to day operations of the Company, including the review and approval of Journal Entries, Mortgages & Mortgage Servicing, Treasury and Foreign Currency transactions, Bank Reconciliations, Accounts Receivable & Payables for 400+ properties and underlying investment entities. This position will work from their centrally located headquarters and reports to both the Controller and Chief Accounting Officer.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • General Accounting & Financial Reporting
    • Record, review, and approve journal entries!
    • Ensure proper coding and classification of expenses.
    • Recording Financing Transactions
    • Support treasury management functions, including cash flow forecasting and fund transfers.
    • Improve processes and controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and external regulations.
    • Collaborate with auditors, tax advisors, and external stakeholders as needed.
    • GL/MRI setup/maintenance – help coordinate the setup of new properties, GL accounts, banking setups, and report design.
    • Backup check signer
    • Review, and approve distributions.
    • Reconcile, and manage intercompany balances.
    • Monitor internal loans for repayments.
    • Review, and oversee mortgage obligations: expirations, trigger dates, and required payments.
    • Review of new mortgage setup and record initial closing.
    • Monitor annual NYC tax assessments, work with certiorari attorneys to address high increases, and review certiorari offers for acceptance/rejection.
    • Ad hoc account analysis/ review – balance sheet accounts
    • Reconcile monthly payroll clearing accounts.
    • Maintain detailed schedules of foreign currency activities for GL and banking reporting.
    • Manage detailed GL activities for foreign entities and complete yearend writeups for Canadian Auditors
    • Maintain a schedule of letters of credit to track expirations and keep appropriate renewals up to date and processed.
    • Help to clear bank rec issues and determine underlying causes for subsequent procedural or other improvement.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
    • Experience in the real estate industry and management is a must.
    • Proven experience as a Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller
    • Strong knowledge of financial concepts, real estate and transactional work, and accrual accounting principles.
    • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and accounting software (e.g., MRI, Sage, Kyriba, Avid, Concur).
    • Excellent analytical skills with meticulous diligence.
    • Strong organizational, and time management, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
    • Familiarity with real estate transaction cycle & property taxes
    • An initiative-taking person who takes initiative and looks to improve wherever possible.
    • High level of critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
