The role is located in Lincolnshire, IL (north of Chicago). This is a hybrid role (after 30 days).
Salary Range: $57k-72k Depending on Experience
Job Description Summary
The Assistant, Environmental Compliance will be supporting the day-to-day business operations in the department. The Assistant will work closely with customers from the office located in Lincolnshire, IL and coordinate daily activities within the department and headquarters in Osaka, Japan as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the regulatory compliance for emissions compliance related requirements, which includes delegated assembly contracts, monthly reports, annual affidavits and related documents.
Collect, review and process monthly reports and annual reports from OEMs, Distributors and Captive companies.
Provide guidance and education to distributors on the compliance system, monthly reporting data collection as well as interpretation and compliance policies
Work with distributors and OEMs on daily basis for continuous improvement on their knowledge and awareness of emission compliance topics, reporting, tracking requirements
Responsible for exempt engines management such as Test Exempt, Replacement, Export, NSE etc. Tracking and reporting per EPA’s requirements.
Process Chemical and Material compliance inquiries from customers.
Coordinate with related departments and suppliers to obtain disclosures for customers.
Support department in reporting and record keeping for the agencies.
Assist in researching various chemical regulations, product safety regulations and related compliance requirements.
Process various emission label requests from customers and record proper evidence.
Process customer’s requests for MSHA kits and track them for agency audits
Review emissions data requests from customers and submit to Japan for processing.
Attain compliance by isolating and resolving non-compliance issues; by informing manager and team
Provide support coordinating and participate in the Compliance Workshop and present the required compliance presentations to the audience as required.
Support Manager and team for preparing various reports, analysis and presentations
Process incoming requests from customers in timely and professional manner
Follow up with internal and external customers for close loop action on various tasks
Arrange shipping for emission labels, documents and record shipping details in organize manner
Prepare and publish emission compliance bulletins
Provide data to the manager when requested for quarterly and annual reporting to agencies
Communicate with Kubota Japan on various compliance topics
Keep emissions and legal information confidential
Manage special projects as assigned
Maintain an organized and secure work environment
Inform manager of all noteworthy activities
Follow safety guidelines, department and corporate policies and procedures
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Broad knowledge of environmental topics is preferred but not required ( EPA 40CFR, 13CCR and ECCC regulations)
Knowledge of Compression Ignition and Spark Ignition engines
Broad understanding of the EPA TSCA, Canada Prop 65, Canada TSCA and EU REACH, RoHS and related regulations.
Prior experience handling regulatory matters is preferred but not required
Basic knowledge of engineering concepts
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to read, understand and prepare technical bulletins and documents
Intermediate knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to follow standard work instructions; be reliable and punctual
Ability to multi-task, establish priorities and meet deadlines, maintain a flexible attitude and approach towards assignments, and maintain level of organization in a changing and fast paced environment
Good command of the English language, both written and verbal
Working knowledge of SAP is preferred but not required
Ability to comprehend an extensive variety of instructions, both oral and written
Ability to define problems, collect data, and establish facts
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as word processing and presentation applications and intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet applications
Ability to follow through on assignments
Ability to operate telephone, copier, fax machines, and other general office equipment
Ability to travel less than 20%, possibly on last minute notice
Education and Training
Associates Degree in Automotive Technology or related field or currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program
3 – 5 years’ experience with off-road industrial gasoline and/or diesel engines
Physical Demands

Dexterity to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists

Work Environment
Work is performed in an office environment. Noise level is moderate
Limited exposure to the warehouse. Limited exposure to temperature variations when shipping doors are open
Limited exposure to engine testing labs. Noise level ranges from moderate to very loud
While traveling, will experience noise and comfort levels common to automobiles and airplanes
