Assistant Plant Manager

This role is instrumental in driving plant performance, optimizing processes, and leading maintenance and reliability initiatives while ensuring safety, quality, and budgetary goals are met.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Assistant Plant Manager will oversee site operations, process optimization, maintenance programs, and reliability strategies. This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive operational efficiency, implement predictive and preventive maintenance strategies, and contribute to overall plant improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development:- Lead and mentor department managers and personnel to enhance team performance and professional development.
- Develop succession plans and career growth opportunities for key roles.
- Oversee performance management, goal setting, and continuous coaching initiatives.
Operations & Process Optimization:- Ensure plant operations align with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and company objectives.
- Optimize production processes for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Leverage MRP and inventory management systems to streamline plant operations.
Maintenance & Reliability Programs:- Drive plant-wide safety initiatives and compliance with regulatory safety standards.
- Oversee predictive and preventative maintenance programs, including failure investigations (Root Cause Analysis) and condition monitoring.
- Plan and execute maintenance schedules, including inter-campaign and plant outage scopes.
Financial & Budgetary Oversight:- Manage operations and annual maintenance program budgets.
- Develop and present budget proposals, ensuring cost efficiency and resource allocation.
- Support quality control and inventory management programs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:- Act as a key stakeholder in plant-wide operations, maintenance, reliability, planning, and scheduling.
- Foster collaboration across departments to drive continuous operational improvements.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience:- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field (preferred).
- 10-15 years of industrial manufacturing experience, including 3-5+ years in a leadership role.
- Previous experience as an Operations Manager, Plant Manager, or Maintenance Manager in a manufacturing environment.
- Industry experience in sugar manufacturing, pulp & paper, oil refining, or petrochemical processing (preferred).
Technical & Operational Skills:- Expertise in preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities for complex equipment, operational, and maintenance challenges.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) (JDE preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
