Assistant Yard Manager
Established company urgently seeking an experienced Assistant Yard Manager with competitive pay and benefits!
Work Shift: 3:30 PM to 1:00 AM
Assistant Yard Manager Overview:
The Assistant Yard Manager oversees the yard and manages inbound and outbound activities. Working under the Yard Manager’s guidance, this role ensures that the check-in and check-out of customer inventory are executed smoothly and safely. The role also focuses on monitoring yard operations and enforcing safety procedures throughout the shift. Maintaining complete visibility of all incoming and outgoing trailers and ensuring their timely transfer between dock doors is crucial for ensuring operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver reports related to KPI performance weekly and monthly.
- Assess daily operations to identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Implement and enforce yard management policies and ensure staff is trained accordingly.
- Coordinate with other managers to facilitate smooth shift transitions and pass down necessary information.
- Analyze operational needs and maintain KPIs directed by leadership.
- Conduct performance reviews twice a year.
- Oversee and manage cycle counts, yard audits, and trailer counts as required.
- Work with the Yard Manager to determine appropriate staffing levels.
- Lead daily team meetings to ensure proper communication and task delegation.
- Ensure reliable attendance and availability.
- Manage employee disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Support the Yard Manager with additional tasks and projects as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities: Assistant Yard Manager:
- Build and support a collaborative team environment, ensuring the development of drivers and administrative staff.
- Remain flexible and responsive to shifting customer demands.
Qualifications:
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Minimum High School Diploma
- A degree in supply chain management, logistics, packaging engineering, or a related discipline is advantageous.
Or/and
- 5 Years of relevant experience
Skills Needed:
- Strong attention to detail, hands-on approach, and excellent organizational abilities.
- Leadership and collaboration skills with a focus on conflict resolution and adaptability to change.
- Proficient in both verbal and written communication.
- At least 5 years of experience in logistics, supply chain management, or automotive yard management.
- Proficiency in data analysis and related software tools.
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to work under pressure with a sense of urgency.
