Position Overview: The Associate Attorney is responsible for providing excellent criminal defense work for clients and representing the firm’s values—honesty, commitment, and creativity. We expect our attorneys to act as dedicated advocates who take pride in their work and zealously advocate for clients. Benefits: • Employer-provided medical (50%) and dental (100%) • 401(k) plan with 3% safe harbor contributions and annual performance-based bonuses • Paid vacation and sick time • Paid holidays Work Environment/Location: • Opportunity to work out of our District of Columbia office • Flexibility to work both remotely and in-office depending on case and client needs Responsibilities: • Conduct legal research to craft compelling arguments in criminal defense cases • Negotiate with prosecutors and other opposing parties to obtain the best outcomes for clients • Work collaboratively with the firm’s attorneys, legal assistants, client intake, and billing • Draft motions, pleadings, and legal correspondence with precision and clarity • Maintain strong client relationships by keeping clients informed and explaining complex legal concepts in understandable terms and demonstrating empathy for their situation • Communicate effectively and professionally with opposing counsel, judges, and court officials • Keep the client file updated on case status, deadlines, and developments via in an accurate, reliable, and traceable manner in our case management system Clio • Manage multiple criminal cases simultaneously, independently handling smaller matters and serving as second chair on larger cases • Represent clients in court hearings, motions, plea negotiations, and trials • Attend CLEs and engage in networking opportunities to continue developing as a lawyer and professional.
