    Job Description

    What You Will Do:

    Under guidance and direction of a higher level engineer this position will assist in the development and updating of calibration procedures used by the Service organization to deliver calibration services worldwide. This includes technical content, adherence to quality and metrology principles and standards (e.g. ISO 17025), and final documentation. The new procedures will be based on existing ISO or ASTM methods and standards, so the ability to understand, in detail, existing standards and translate them to practical application is critical. The final methods must pass technical and quality audits by an external lab accreditation agency. Candidate will interact with Laboratory personnel for technical direction, key Instron field engineers for their input, and software engineers as required. Candidate must develop thorough understanding of the relevant methods and equipment through research and hands-on operation of the equipment. Takes project direction directly from the calibration lab manager.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the development and documenting of procedures and equipment necessary to implement new calibration services.
    • Assist in the development and documenting of procedures and equipment to expand our in-house calibration lab’s capabilities and reduce our reliance on outside vendors for calibration.
    • Support and improve existing procedures and documentation used by service engineers to perform calibrations in the field.
    • Working with the higher level engineers perform uncertainty analyses in compliance with international standards

    What You Will Bring:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Mechanical Engineering degree or other technical degree with sound mechanical aptitude.
    • Excellent organization, attention to detail and writing skills.
    • Some experience working with processes, engineering or quality documentation.
    • Should understand and be able to apply basic concepts of metrology and uncertainty of measurement, and related statistics.
    • Proficiency with Excel spreadsheets as a method of collecting, analyzing, and reporting calibration data is a plus.
    • Ability to translate existing standards into procedures and methods that can be readily implemented by a widely dispersed field organization.
    • Very advantageous if already experienced in ISO 17025 practices and development of ASTM or ISO based calibration methods.

    Working Conditions:

    • Normal plant environment with some exposure to dirt, noise and grease, operational equipment, and the hazards associated with the application of Force Measuring Instrumentation.
