Our fast-growing communications agency is looking for an Associate Media Relations Strategist to provide support for media activities.
Responsibilities
• Continue building understanding of different media verticals and how/when to engage with each on behalf of clients
• Establishes relationships with media outlets/reporters
• Understands various media engagement approaches and learn to use available media tools
• Draft media materials with oversight from media relations team members
• Develop media lists using relevant tools with supervision
• Prepare journalist background documents
• Understand AP style and its use when composing media deliverables
• Conduct media outreach based on news announcements and continue to strengthen media relations skills
• Adhere to deadlines
• Engage in select media outreach and ad-hoc projects with supervision
• Work with account team members on media projects
• Follow core media outlets and articles by industry and relevant reporters to understand coverage themes
• Contribute to media intelligence sharing among the media relations team
• Understand how and why tactical efforts support the account/client’s larger strategy and goals
• Work on assignments in close partnership with media relations and account teams
• Communicate professionally and effectively with clients when necessary
• Contribute actively in team meetings and discussions
Requirements:
• 1-2+ years of media relations experience and Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required; previous agency experience desired
• Genuine interest in media relations and the healthcare/biopharma industry and thrives in fast-paced environment
• Effective organizational, communication and writing skills
• Basic understanding of evolving media landscape
• Professional presence, performs with a sense of urgency and with a client service orientation
• Ability to learn how to write for media, including reporter pitches and internal emails
• Able to communicate effectively with manager and other team members regarding project updates, deadlines, etc.
