The San Francisco Standard is seeking a smart, detail-oriented Associate Producer to support our growing audio team across multiple shows, including our upcoming flagship weekly news podcast, upcoming narrative series, and Life in Seven Songs. This is an opportunity to get in early on a dynamic and ambitious podcast operation and contribute meaningfully to all stages of production, including social promotion of the shows.

As an Associate Producer, you'll work under the guidance of editors and producers to support both pre- and post-production tasks—cutting tape, researching stories, prepping interviews, organizing files, editing social videos, and occasionally working in the field. This is a great role for someone with some professional audio and video experience who's eager to learn, contribute across formats, and grow in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support multiple shows with research, fact-checking, guest prep, and booking

    • Assist in the production of interviews—scheduling, logging tape, organizing files, and preparing transcripts

    • Cut rough drafts of episodes, segments, or promotional materials as assigned

    • Help maintain editorial calendars, episode outlines, and show archives

    • Pitch story ideas and contribute to team brainstorms across all shows

    • Track tape, music, and archive usage, and assist with rights clearances as needed

    • Take direction from senior producers and editors, adapting quickly to changing priorities

    • Stay current on San Francisco news and culture to identify potential story leads and collaborators

    • Assist with identifying social short-form video cutdowns and editing them

    Qualifications

    • 1–3 years of professional experience in podcasting, radio, or digital audio

    • Solid understanding of basic audio production and editing workflows

    • Experience with Pro Tools, Descript, or similar audio editing software

    • Experience with social video and video editing in Premiere or similar editing software

    • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent communication skills

    • Ability to juggle multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment

    • Enthusiasm for local journalism and audio storytelling

    • Willingness to pitch in across projects and learn from feedback

    Bonus Qualifications ****

    • Experience with booking, reporting, or research in a newsroom setting

    • Spanish, Cantonese, or Tagalog language skills are a plus

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Salary Range: $60,000–$90,000 annually, depending on experience

    • Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, and paid parental leave

    • A collaborative and creative newsroom based in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood
