Job Overview: The Athletic Court Application Technician is responsible for the preparation, application, and maintenance of specialized coatings and surfaces for athletic courts, including tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts, and other recreational or sports areas. This role requires a strong understanding of surface preparation, coating systems, and application techniques to ensure safe, durable, and high-performance courts. The technician will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure the highest quality finishes and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare athletic court surfaces by cleaning, sanding, grinding, and repairing any cracks, imperfections, or surface damage to ensure proper adhesion of coatings.
Apply specialized court coatings, including acrylic, polyurethane, and other sports surface materials, to provide a smooth and durable playing surface.
Install and mark court boundaries, lines, logos, and other features according to specifications and client requests.
Maintain and operate specialized equipment such as sprayers, rollers, and power washers for surface preparation and coating application.
Perform routine maintenance tasks on athletic courts, including re-coating, resurfacing, and repairing damage from wear and weather.
Ensure the proper curing and drying times for each layer of coating to achieve optimal results.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues such as uneven application, improper surface preparation, or equipment malfunctions.
Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) while working with chemicals and operating equipment.
Maintain detailed records of materials used, work completed, and project timelines.
Inspect completed work for quality, ensuring all markings are accurate, coatings are smooth, and the surface is safe for play.
Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates on project progress and any challenges or changes to the original plan.
Ensure all work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest industry standards.
Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience in the application of athletic court coatings, including tennis, basketball, and pickleball courts.
Strong understanding of different types of coatings and surface materials, including acrylics, polyurethane, and other sport-specific systems.
Knowledge of surface preparation techniques, such as crack filling, patching, grinding, and cleaning.
Ability to operate and maintain specialized equipment, such as sprayers, power washers, and line stripers.
Excellent attention to detail, ensuring all markings and surfaces are accurate and meet quality standards.
Ability to troubleshoot problems and adapt to changing conditions on the job site.
Strong communication and customer service skills, ensuring client satisfaction.
Physical stamina to handle outdoor work, including standing, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
Ability to follow safety protocols and work in compliance with industry regulations.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certifications in coatings, surface preparation, or related fields is a plus.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the application of athletic court surfaces or similar roles in coatings and maintenance.
Experience with specialized coatings for sports surfaces (tennis, basketball, etc.) is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods of time while working on surfaces.
Ability to handle chemicals and materials safely while adhering to safety protocols.
Working Conditions:
Occasional overtime depending on project deadlines.
Travel to different job sites as needed for installations or maintenance projects.
Evening or weekend work may be required based on client schedules or project needs.
