  • Responsibilities

    We are seeking a highly skilled Assistant General Counsel – Discovery & Records to join the General Counsel's Office. This role will focus on managing the firm’s discovery processes, including responding to subpoenas, discovery requests, and file transfer requests, while overseeing preservation holds and ensuring compliance with records management protocols. You will collaborate closely with multiple departments to provide strategic legal guidance on complex matters.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    Advise on discovery related to internal firm matters, including compliance processes for subpoenas, discovery requests, and file transfer requests.

    Implement preservation holds and manage the firm’s data preservation, collection, and review protocols.

    Collaborate with the Information Governance and Litigation/eDiscovery departments to manage discovery processes and legal holds.

    Oversee the review and transfer of client files, ensuring compliance with firm policies.

    Work with internal teams and external counsel on litigation, pre-litigation, and risk management matters.

    Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices related to discovery and firm information management.

    Stay updated on developments in discovery law, firm risk management, and legal regulations.

     

    Qualifications:

    • JD from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in good standing in the jurisdiction of the Cooley office.
    • 5+ years of experience managing discovery, including eDiscovery projects, for complex litigation matters.
    • Expertise with relational document review databases (e.g., Relativity) and strong litigation practice skills.
    • Deep knowledge of discovery concepts, procedural rules, and litigation processes.
    • Ability to work extended hours and travel as needed.

     

    Preferred:

    • Experience in law firm risk management and project management.
    • Familiarity with legal ethics, privilege issues, and data privacy regulations.

    Benefits:

    • Competitive salary range: $200,000–$260,000, based on experience and location.
