Position Overview:
We're seeking a forward-thinking Automation Engineer with a knack for leading cross-functional teams and driving innovation. From exploring new technologies to integrating custom equipment and advanced controls, you'll be at the center of transforming our processes with efficiency, intelligence, and precision.
Your Role in the Big Picture:
- Spearhead automation and process improvement projects—from idea to implementation
- Discover and assess opportunities for smarter systems and streamlined workflows
- Research automation concepts and vet vendors to find the right fit for each solution
- Manage full project cycles: development, commissioning, and handoff
- Build and communicate clear procedures, maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides for new systems
- Collaborate with vendors and in-house teams to design and implement custom machinery
- Define success criteria, budgets, and timelines for major initiatives
- Align project goals with stakeholders across departments and secure buy-in
- Execute and document site acceptance testing on externally sourced systems
- Take the lead in diagnosing and resolving complex equipment issues
- Prioritize tasks across multiple fast-moving projects and timelines
- Work closely with Controls Engineers to embed AI/ML models into automation infrastructure (PLCs, SCADA, etc.)
Team Leadership:
- Provide oversight to 1–2 technicians
- Manage up to 5 contractors and 10 vendors depending on project scope
What You Bring:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, ideally with a focus on packaging and automation
- Strong project management chops—taking ideas from whiteboard to operational success
- Familiarity with machine control systems and automation workflows
- Excellent problem-solving instincts and a desire to innovate
- Experience working in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
