Our STEM instructors are passionate educators who teach science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to underserved young people of color through in-person interactions. Instructors report directly to the STEM Program director and are individuals dedicated to addressing the learning gap for students of color in marginalized communities. Our instructors do not require formal teaching experience, just a STEM degree (completed or in pursuit) and a passion for being a positive influence in someones life. Training is provided.
Essential Duties:
- Lead classroom instruction for Kindergarten to High School students in various science, technology, engineering, and math topics
- Implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with Next Generation Science Standards
- Provide experiential learning experiences through fun, engaging and educational STEM labs
- Practice Professionalism and participate in weekly Professional Development and training
- Manage student behavior to ensure every student is fully engaged
- Support in creating program materials to enhance classroom experiences
- Work collaboratively with program staff and partners during weekly programming and community events
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse community
- Travel to various schools throughout Los Angeles to provide STEM instruction
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Collegiate-level course work (upper division) in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medicine, nursing and/or another related field.
- 0-1 years experiences
- COVID-19 Vaccination
- Vehicle for transportation
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
- 1-5 years experience in an educational setting, preferred.

- Knowledge of Google, Canva, Microsoft and other data collection software
- Ability and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices

The physical demands:
- Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height
- Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)
- Demonstrate normal depth perception
- Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
- See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
- Distinguish colors
- Read and understand rules and policies, labels, and instructions
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone
- Verbal communications, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels and on the telephone
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics are representative of those in a normal office, classroom/school setting which one might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job

- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments
- Exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals
