    Taylor University is seeking applications of candidates for INFRASTRUCTURE NETWORK SPECIALIST.  This is a FULL-TIME, 12 MONTH, EXEMPT position located in Upland, Indiana.  Resumes will be accepted until the position is filled. 

     

    The Infrastructure Network Specialist is responsible for the ongoing support and operation of the Taylor University network communications systems and business continuity/disaster recovery (BCDR) power systems.  They work very closely with others on the Infrastructure Services team to ensure the availability and reliability of the university’s various network communications and BCDR power systems.  This position is a member of a dynamic team environment, and based upon the complexity of the server and storage environment, the person will be expected to handle a variety of tasks and projects based upon university priorities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Responsible to support the university network communications systems including the physical hardware, cabling infrastructure, device firmware, network monitoring applications, documentation, and associated business continuity/disaster recovery systems.  Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical systems.
    2. Responsible to support the university business continuity/disaster recovery power systems including the physical hardware, cabling infrastructure, device firmware, monitoring applications and preventative maintenance.  Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical systems.
    3. Work under supervision to assure that maintenance contracts on all network communication systems and BCDR power systems applications are up to date and sufficient to facilitate full recovery within a reasonable amount of time.  Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained.
    4. Work as directed to assure proper security of network communications system access by implementing security and business continuity/disaster recovery policies and procedures in conjunction with the rest of the Infrastructure Services team and Director of Enterprise Infrastructure.
    5. Monitor and report network communications and BCDR power systems utilization.  Assist in the development of plans for needed systems upgrades both inside and outside the institution. Provide modeling data and trend analysis for proposed expansion of the systems for which they are directly responsible.
    6. Participate with the rest of the Infrastructure Services team to support the storage area network communications system infrastructure. 
    7. Participate with the rest of the Infrastructure Services team, to monitor and enforce the security access controls of the network communications systems. 
    8. Support in a secondary role the central campus digital sign solution, including the enterprise wide server application, media playing hardware/PCs, and televisions.
    9. Work alongside outside vendors and contractors on systems support, and escalate to management as needed.
    10. Work closely with the User Services team to provide technical assistance, support, and training when requested or necessary.
    11. Assist the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure in defining long-range strategies to provide sufficient network communications capacity and appropriate functionality for growth and new programs.
    12. Support in a secondary role the university server and storage systems including the physical hardware, virtual environment, the operating system, core system applications and associated business continuity/disaster recovery systems. 
    13. Responsible for locating and marking university owned underground Information Technology communications cables.
    14. Responsible for learning and supporting new technologies for the university as assigned.
    15. Lead and/or work on department project teams as assigned.

        

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:  

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Computer Science or related technology major and/or appropriate network certifications required (e.g. Network+, HP ExpertOne, Aruba Certified Solutions Professional - ACSP, or equivalent).
    • 1 to 2 years’ experience with network communications systems and have a general understanding of the Information Technology industry.
    • 1 to 2 years’ experience with network communications systems, preferably with HPE and Aruba.
    • Experience with enterprise business continuity/disaster recovery power systems (Liebert UPS, APC UPS, fundamental knowledge of electrical systems to engage with electricians and electrical engineers).
    • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems including installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, scripting, systems integration, and clustering.
    • Experience with digital sign server application administration, media playing hardware/PCs, and televisions.
    • Ability to make mature decisions, have good interpersonal skills, mature judgment, ability to learn quickly, ability to plan and schedule work, ability to quickly learn and apply new technology.
    • Work with minimum supervision.
    • Must be able to handle and work with interruptions during normal office hours.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    Work performed in an office environment within a store. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopies and fax machines. Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment. Frequently needs to stand, sit on a stool (counter height), and climb on and off the stool when assisting guests at the counter. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
