JOB TITLE: AUTOMOTIVE COMPTROLLER
- POSITION IS IN LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS

Summary Reports the financial condition of the total dealership to the dealer/general manager regularly and accurately. Provides sales and expense analyses summarizing potential problem areas and opportunities for improved profitability relative to monthly and annual forecasts.
COMPTROLLER ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Prepares a complete financial statement monthly according to dealership guidelines and within each manufacturer's format and time frame. Ensures that all manufacturer accounts, including warranty claims, rebates, interest protection and co-op advertising are current and accurate.
- Interprets the financial statement and the daily operating control (DOC) regularly and informs dealers of developing trends.
- Participates in the preparation of short- and long-term financial forecasts for the dealership.
- Provides department managers with detailed financial and management reports
- Maintains an effective cash management system that forecasts cash funds and makes recommendations for the profitable use of excess cash.
- Directs assessment of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
- Reviews the general ledger and scheduled accounts. Notes any unusual entries and investigates
- Reviews the reconciliation of general ledger accounts with outside sources to ensure proper bank reconciliation, reserve accounts, factory payable and floor plan payable.
- Stays abreast of tax code revisions and advises dealers regarding any operational adjustments.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable government finance regulations, including filing and/or maintaining of required forms, payroll taxes and deposits, income taxes, retirement plan records etc
- Manages the dealership computer system to maximize utilization
- Administers a loss review program and maintains loss reserves for contingent liabilities and trade receivables.
- Meets with the dealer to evaluate all insurance renewals.
- Assists the process of purchasing property and liability insurance
- Prepares and processes all insurance claims.
- Coordinates monthly & annual audit (or review) and physical inventory.
- Ensures that all office personnel are using proper accounting procedures and maintaining accurate records and analyses and supervises the preparation of all information for the CPA to minimize audit or review costs.
- Attends managers meetings.
- Maintains professional appearance.
- Other tasks as assigned by the owner, vice president and general manager.
COMPTROLLER DAILY DUTIES
- Update the morning forecast and reports.
- Send an email to all the department heads, general manager and owner including all the morning reports and forecasts.
- Oversee and interact with all office personnel and their duties
- Chase contract fundings, wholesales, oversees smartcash in order to meet the deposit.
- Reconcile cash sales; make correct entries and resolve problems.
- Make bank entries.
- Help office staff with any problems that arise on a daily/hourly basis.(Data entry questions, issues with customers, bendors, employees, etc.)
- Oversee staffing issues, absences, time clock issues.
- Handle any task other people ask you to do.
- Post internal parts tickets.
- Code tickets for payables that need managers approval.
- Morning bank including all reports sent in by email.
- Review all cash sales entries and work to resolve problems from service cashiers.
- CBI entries and issues with billing.
- Help resolve data entry questions, issues with customers, vendors and other employees.
- Create an overtime report to all departments.
- Post GM payables. Weekly
- Check GM reconciliation.
- Check sublet and make corrections.
- Look at various accounts that generally have issues/errors.
- Make warranty adjustment entries.
- Review financial statements and ledgers and resolve/correct account discrepancies.
- Meet with department heads.
- Oversee and help with payroll functions (biweekly, semi-monthly and month end commissions).
- Payroll Plus post it to the General Ledger.
- Check GM reconciliation done by payables.
- Review and correct issues with the sublet schedule.
- Check reconciliations, bank, reserve, warranty, etc.
- Make any correcting entries or oversee entries getting handled depending on which account.
- Reconcile and make all reserve account entries.
- Run account rec statement, resolving any issues on statements.
- Reconcile COD, OE Connect, sprint and resolve issues.
- Reconcile GMPP and resolve any issues on statement.
- Reconcile and post the Shell monthly gas bill.
- Run financial and end of the month and all details involved in this process.
- As Needed, handle all personal items sent up by Owners, I.E. paying certain bills, etc.
- Make and maintain/add or adjust standard entries.
COMPTROLLER QUALIFICATIONS

COMPTROLLER EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPTROLLER CPA PREFERRED LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
