Background
This position supports PEMDAS Technologies and Innovations in its research and development of technologies for the Department of Defense, US Government Federal Agencies, and commercial enterprises. PEMDAS is a recognized small business with the reputation for fast innovation cycles and exceeding the customers’ needs. This position will require a team player, self-starter, creative problem solver, and the ability to adapt in the performance of assigned tasks. The Research Associate is a leader in innovation in the research and development (R&D) of PEMDAS technologies and systems. This individual combines expertise and experience in scientific disciplines to be a significant asset for PEMDAS R&D.
Responsibilities
· Participate in the development and maintenance of operational environmental intelligence system, to include system configuration, testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting
· Monitor performance of environmental intelligence products
· Conduct scientific and technical research in support of PEMDAS R&D objectives.
· Conduct literature reviews and surveys on emerging topics of interest.
· Develop new technologies and algorithms for PEMDAS R&D
· Provide subject matter expertise in Atmospheric Science
· Advise on recommended courses of action relative to PEMDAS R&D efforts.
· Represent PEMDAS at trade shows, conventions, and business meetings as requested by supervisor or PEMDAS representative.
· Provide atmospheric science and technical writing expertise on proposals, white papers, and other PEMDAS documents.
· Adhere to all PEMDAS software development processes.
· Fulfill project-specific requirements including, but not limited to, monthly status reports, meetings, and PEMDAS internal and contract requirements.
· Adhere to all PEMDAS corporate policies and procedures, as documented and provided to employee by supervisor or PEMDAS representative.
Specifics
Must Haves:
· At least a Master’s degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science, or at least 10 years
of equivalent experience in a career field applicable to atmospheric sciences
· Eligible to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance.
· Demonstrated proficiency in software programming languages such as Python and/or MATLAB
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience in statistical evaluation of meteorological data sets.
· Demonstrated ability to convey scientific information to a non-technical audience in written and oral formats.
· Will work remotely from own residence as part of a geographically separated team.
Additional Preferred Skills:
· PhD of Science or Engineering in a field applicable to atmospheric sciences
· Expertise in big data analytics
· Familiarity with aviation weather, including manned and un-manned platforms.
· Experience with artificial intelligence and/or machine learning
· Familiarity with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model
· Database experience, including development and applications.
