Job Summary:
The Employee Relations Specialist will assist with labor relations and human resources matters, gathering, collecting, and maintaining documents and records required for contract and policy development, investigations, and negotiations.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Director of Labor & Employee Relations, tasks and duties will include, but will not be limited to:
- Oversight of the Work Rules for Absenteeism and Tardiness.
- Collaborate with the program leadership to maintain the “attendance points” tracker; proper escalation to Director of Labor & Employee Relations on the coordination and documentation of penalties as needed.
- Monitor and track unreported absences, partnering with program leadership, investigating, confirming time & attendance records, drafting recommendations and processing as needed.
- Research patterns of excessive absenteeism, conducting investigations, verifying documents, drafting recommendations and processing as needed.
- Assists with the administration and record keeping of the agency's disciplinary systems and procedures (i.e., grievances, arbitration, time and attendance, progressive discipline, etc.); maintaining labor and employee relations records as needed;
- Handles routine labor relations and human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements; refers complex matters to appropriate management staff.
- Assists with the initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns; informs appropriate HR staff when additional investigation is required.
- Assists with recordkeeping related to hiring, termination, leave, transfer, and promotion particularly as related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), affirmative action, and diversity initiatives.
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR and contract negotiations.
Education and Experience:
- BA in Human Resources or a related field and/or background in labor & employee relations required.
- Preference for 1 year of professional human resource administration and/or experience in data management and/or administrative filing.

Full-time 37.5 hours per week
