  • Responsibilities

    Business Unit Controller

    The Controller is responsible for accurate financial recordation and generation of financial statements. Management and costing of inventories and fixed assets, manage actual spend, as well as ensure an effective internal control environment. This leader examines the finances related to the business and provides insight to identify risk and work to resolve/mitigate those risks, as well as identify business and manufacturing opportunities. The Controller takes an active role in the daily management of the business. Reports to Regional Controller and has dotted line responsibility to the General Manager.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monthly close process and the timely and accurate reporting of financial results and forecasts.
    • Ensure production orders are closed, in-hand invoices are processed, subsystem posts are tied out, manual journal entries are posted, and accounts reconciled
    • Ensure internal controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively - appropriately report and execute an action plan to resolve any control deficiencies, maintain controls and banking compliance requirements
    • Manage AP/AR, and cash/treasury
    • Accountable for inventory management, ensuring that the plant&\#39;s inventory controls are adequate, reconciling inventory balances monthly, identifying overage and aging material issues, and coordinating periodic cycle counts/physical inventories
    • Responsible for fixed asset accounting, including capital project reviews, asset capitalization, idle asset reporting, and the physical inventory of fixed assets
    • Generate appropriate performance based metrics; drive ownership & organizational discipline to monitor & proactively optimize financial performance - act as partner to the plant leadership team to drive cost & productivity initiatives.
    • Assess risks and opportunities as well as a forecast performance for the remainder of the year 
    • Facilitate internal or external auditors (annual GAAP financial, compliance, government cost accounting, 401(k), opening balance sheet)
    • Generate annual budgets and drive the plant&\#39;s strategic or annual operating planning process in conjunction with corporate objectives
    • Perform specific business analyses for the President/GM and Board, as required
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of compliance and covenant calculations to banks and lenders
    • Establish cost accounting policies and procedures as required
    • Serve as the organization lead for ERP implementation and I/T cost controls
    • Collect and ensure accuracy of monthly operating review and board reporting materials including, but not limited to: sources of variability, productivity, unusual
    • Build financial support team, capable of supporting leveraged dynamic scale (i.e. stabilize and improve sales per employee metrics within the overhead functions)
    • Provide valuable inputs, performance evaluations, and support to the talent development of of finance staff and tier 1-2 leaders.

    Education/Experience

    • Bachelor degree in financial management discipline, Masters in Business Administration, CPA, or equivalent highly preferred.
    • 5+ years experience in corporate accounting, preferably in the manufacturing industry
    • Experience with Epicor or other large ERP Systems would be an asset.
  • Compensation
    $145,000 per year
