    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The role of a Behavior Therapist at Autism Matters is to provide direct behavior therapy to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Behavior therapy sessions include utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) teaching procedures across intensive and natural teaching environments. A Behavior Therapist is responsible for the delivery of direct Verbal Behavior Therapy (VBT) to the clients through instruction, guidance and example. They are responsible for assuring quality care and a well maintained and organized therapy environment.

    TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Complete and pass competencies with 80% accuracy within the first 90 days of employment.

    • Conduct 1:1 and 2:1 therapy sessions to improve clients’ mental and physical well-being. Training is focused in the areas of self-help, language development, control of challenging behaviors, community living, safety, social skills, and gross and fine motor development. Session length varies up to four hours per client.

    • Throughout treatment sessions, utilize Central Reach to record observations and analyses of clients’ participation, reactions, and progress. Prepare and submit all required documentation to clients’ care team in a timely manner with minimal errors.

    • Implement goals, objectives, protocols, and procedures from clients’ individual treatment and behavior plans with high treatment integrity in order to meet the needs of the clients and ensure accurate consequences for behaviors.

    • Demonstrate and model consistent use of positive and proactive behavior management techniques, encouraging clients with special needs and circumstances to acquire new skills and participate in activities.

    • Gather therapy materials and otherwise prepare for sessions with clients as needed.

    • Ensure that client routine daily tasks are completed as necessary. This may also include but is not limited to: toilet training, feeding, etc.

    • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism when communicating with family members or caregivers of clients, conveying relevant information to the appropriate parties as needed.

    • Obtain information from medical records, staff, family members, and the clients to assess clients’ capabilities, needs, and interests.

    • Regularly and consistently maintain the cleanliness of the center throughout the treatment day.

    • Consistently demonstrate willingness and flexibility in meeting client, family, and agency needs.

    • Attend and participate in client and staff meetings and/or observation and direction sessions and implement feedback provided.

    • Participate in community outreach events representing Autism Matters.
