    Bethel Lutheran Church Music Director Mission: to musically lead the congregation in selfless worship and cultivate the talents of volunteer musicians, to the glory of God. Responsibilities: - Work with the pastor in planning and selecting music for services (weekly and special.) - Lead worship for Sunday traditional (8:30am) and contemporary (11:00am) services. - Direct the worship teams (weekly), adult choir and bell choir and children's choir (if needed). - Lead worship for Wednesday services as part of "The Gathering" during the school year. - Lead worship for occasional special services (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, worship in the park, "sing-alongs" etc.) - Coordinate and lead volunteer worship teams in weekly practice and service. - Maintain music equipment and instrument (Kawai Grand Piano, 3 Octave Hand Bell Set, Yamaha Motif XS8 Keyboard, Choir Risers and Railing,, and more. - Work with office manager to sync Power Point, Pro Presenter, slides and music for worship services. - Must have some knowledge of Sound Equipment and an understanding of Audio Visual Equipment. - Ensure copyright approval for all music. - Oversee storage, organization, and indexing of sheet music collection both on paper and in computer. - Music Director is required to be present for in person worship. - Communicate regularly with the deacon who sits on and oversees the Worship and Music Committee. This committee assist the pastor and music director in planning regular and special worship events. - Assists the director of family ministries with the music for the church's annual Vacation Bible School event, following the pre-determined musical selections that complement the curriculum chosen by the director of family ministries. Expectations: - Demonstrate music making as an act of worship, not a performance. - Pursue creative musical expressions of worship, while also honoring both Lutheran and Bethel's traditions. - Complete tasks and responsibilities without direct supervision and participate in weekly staff meetings. - Able to guide and encourage both those who do and don't read music. - Invite participation while demonstrating reliability, flexibility, patie4nce and a good sense of humor. - Be a flexible team player. Work well with other staff members and volunteers. Qualifications: - Must be a committed Christian who is respectful of Lutheran Doctrine. - Skilled at playing the piano. Able to read from a hymnal as well as lead sheets/chord charts. - Able to plan, teach, lead worship teams, adult and youth choirs, and willingness to direct or oversee a hand bell choir. - Able to pass a background check. Compensation: - Congregational prayer support. - Leadership and encouragement from the pastor and church council. - Part time salaried position (15-20 hours per week) with a bi-monthly rate between $600 and $750 commensurate with experience and specific duties. (Annual $14,400 to $18,000) - Other compensation per employee handbook (vacation time, sick leave, weddings, funerals, etc.) - Negotiable schedule with pastoral approval and input. - Access to the sanctuary piano for private student lessons. Bethel Lutheran Church may terminate employment at will or Director of Music may terminate employment with two week notice.
