We are seeking a qualified Biological Assessment Author to assist our environmental team on a full-time basis. This position would prepare comprehensive biological assessments for transportation projects managed by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The role involves evaluating the potential effects of proposed projects on local ecosystems, species, and habitats to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and to support decision-making processes.

    Responsibilities

    • Knowledge of and direct experience with NEPA in support of FHWA Transportation and/or FTA Transit projects.
    • Experience with Washington State regulatory requirements for Environmental Review
    • Ability to field identify and assess project impacts to stream and riparian habitat.
    • Ability to identify plant species in the field and develop recommendations to improve species health.
    • Ability to research and assess project impacts to wildlife and aquatic species.
    • Collaborate with State and Federal agents to research project impacts and prepare biological assessment documents.

    Education and/or Experience

    A bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, ecology, or a related field (a Master’s degree is preferred) and an approved status as a Biological Assessment Author with WSDOT are required. Experience with WSDOT projects or similar state transportation departments is highly desirable.


    Salary Range – $140,000 to $155,000 per year based on experience level. This is an exempt position.
