    Iris Scientific is a specialty recruitment agency laser focused on sales and marketing roles in the North American Scientific Instrumentation Industry.

    We are working with a market leading global microscopy and imaging instrumentation manufacturer to find a field-based Biotechnology Microscopy Business Development Manager, covering NY, NJ, CT, PA, DC / DMV, and NC Research Triangle. The candidate should be ideally based locally within the greater Philadelphia area but other regional centers will be considered.

    Product coverage includes advanced microscopy solutions within the Biotech and Pharma markets.

    Overall Responsibility:

    This position will drive new business development within the biotech and pharma markets. Specifically, this role will create healthy internal relationships with company sales reps and product specialists to turn short-term biotechnology transactions into long-term strategic partnerships. This role will uncover national and local business opportunities with qualified biotechnology companies that need microscopy and imaging products/services. This position will gain access to C-suite biotech leadership by growing rapport with lab level contacts that trust them as critical thinkers and problem solvers. Rapport grows from in-person, concierge service and consistent contact with prospects and clients. C-suite leadership work with this position because they are disruptors and thought leaders, while making them think about their business differently and help to solve complex business problems. In summary, this role is to represent the company at the highest levels the biotech and pharma industries; they are polished, prepared, and persistent professionals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Business development of advanced microscopy and imaging products within the biotech and pharma markets
    • Work as a team with local Sales Representatives, Product Specialists, and Management to negotiate opportunities and partnerships with C-Suite / decision maker personnel of key accounts
    • Help research and business decision makers solve microscopy & business-related challenges from throughput requirements to bottlenecks in the purchasing process
    • Work with local teams to target, prospect, and develop new opportunities, as well as, identify and develop existing accounts
    • Single point of contact for C-suite, VP, and other decision maker personnel within account
    • Be active with self-directed learning regarding microscopy technology/applications, and sales/business practices using extensive company resources
    • Maintain sales opportunity information within company CRM software to ensure management has accurate sales pipeline information

    Essential Requirements:

    • 2+ years experience working in Biotech, Pharma, or Large Hospital Systems in a business development, sales, or research role.
    • University Degree within science or business.
    • A strong technical aptitude and a comfort with working with advanced scientific instrumentation.  Familiarity with Life Sciences microscopy is a strong advantage.
    • A high degree of computer literacy is required. Must be proficient within a Windows environment: Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
    • Must exhibit a strong ability to work in a team environment
    • Highly developed organizational and project management skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Should be comfortable presenting complex topics to groups.
    • Must be fully fluent in English
    • Ability to travel overnight up to 35% of the time
    • Requires a valid current drivers license
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States

    $200,000 per year
