Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Bookkeeper is responsible for supporting the operational health of Esperanza Community Housing Corporation and its affiliate entities. Duties primarily include accounts payable, data entry, organizing & maintaining files, and supporting the department with various administrative tasks.
Duties: With the support of the Finance Director, assist & complete the following duties:
Collect and prepare invoices for payment in QuickBooks Online
Process cash & check receipts and make bank deposits with oversight from Finance
Director
Maintain and organize files and convert paper files to digital files
Support with documentation requests during audits
Support preparation of various grant invoices
Answer vendor inquiries
Assists in monthly accounting close including supporting credit card and bank
reconciliations
Maintain vendor files
General clerical duties
QualificationsPrevious office, HR or Finance Assistant experience is strongly preferred
Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in office setting in a Finance
department is required
Familiarity with QuickBooks Online or other fund accounting software is a plus
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage and appropriately prioritize multiple
projects simultaneously
Ability to learn quickly and stay organized
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability and desire to work in a multi-cultural &; bilingual (Spanish) environment
Ability to develop strong working relationships with colleagues across departments and
seniority levels
Ability to sit at a desk all day and work in an office setting
Ability to lift and move 20 lbs
Desire to work for a community-based, social justice, non-profit organization
Work Environment: This is a part-time in-office, 15-20 hour/week position that will work on-site at Esperanza’s South Los Angeles office, on a work schedule that facilitates direct engagement and support. After the orientation period of 90 days, there are options to work a hybrid schedule with Executive Director approval. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers. The work environment is usually consistent with that of a typical office’s noise level.

This job requires that the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, concentrate, and climb stairs, bend, and stoop. Must be able to use a telephone and computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks.
Employment Type: This is a part-time (15-20 hours/week), non-exempt, hourly, at-will staff position, employed by Esperanza Community Housing Corporation. This position requires direct administrative work relating to internal processes. Non-exempt employees are expected to work during normal business hours 9am-5pm Monday-Friday and will have an orientation period of 90 days for benefits, and 6 months for performance and review.
Compensation & Benefits: Competitive hourly range of $21-$26/hr, based on qualifications and experience. Esperanza Community Housing offers comprehensive benefits that include unemployment and holiday/vacation/sick leave pay.
