    The Payroll & HR Specialist implements the company focus on superior service and employee satisfaction. This Payroll / HR role works directly to ownership and handles all staff issues. Payroll/HR has a large private office located at the Burr Ridge facility.

    JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Enters data and submits payroll on a bi-weekly basis, including all timekeeping and paid days off recordkeeping.  Accuracy is critical, as well as thorough considerations of the many issues for each payroll.
    • Primary point-of-contact for employees, supervisors and managers on all payroll and HR areas.
    • Maintains accurate records for paid days off, payroll deductions and garnishments.
    • Coordinates all employee benefits programs, including new-hire enrollment, communication to employees when questions arise, and annual open enrollment
    • Handles any employee related issues such as corrective action/terminations, with assistance of management
    • Coordinates the entering and maintenance of all employee data in the payroll/HR system
    • Assists with staffing by recruiting, screening, and interviewing as needed (most hiring done at store level)
    • Coordinates onboarding for all new hires including payroll, I-9 and HR paperwork, policy/handbook explanations, timeclock usage, etc.
    • Maintains all employee files and other recordkeeping
    • Provides a high-level of customer service when assisting employees, managers and outside individuals who contact HR for assistance.
    • Provides strong focus on positive employee interactions and generating relationships of trust with staff by spending time in the stores interacting with staff
    • Empowers Managers to take actions regularly to support staff growth, training and development
    • Supports store managers to establish store accountabilities, desired culture, talent acquisition, goal attainment, and positive employee relations
    • Supports top management by providing human resources advice, counsel, and options
    • Guides management and employee actions by developing, writing, and updating policies
    • High level of confidentiality in all company or personal employee information is critical.
    • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements
    • Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on payroll and HR experience
    • Must have hands-on experience running payroll using a full (sophisticated) payroll and HRIS software system, including technology options for ease of use.
    • Prefer experience working in a grocery or similar retail setting
    • Strongly prefer experience working for a small to middle-sized family-owned business
    • Very accurate and detail oriented
    • Great people skills, including aptitude in talking with employees and generating relationship and trust, including a warm, open and inviting manner
    • Knowledge and experience handling FMLA is a plus
    • General knowledge of payroll regulations and employment law compliance required
    • Positive attitude – can do approach
    • Ability to fucus and multitask with multiple interruptions
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills
    • Good problem-solving skills
