GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, the LVN Consultation Nurse assists in the daily operation for generating any specialist consults for the participants as they are ordered by the Physician. After the Physician has reviewed the Registered Nurse’s assessment or has seen the participant and written an order for a consultation, it will be the LVN Consultation Nurse’s responsibility to process the order as outlined.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process and tracks all outgoing participant consults generated by BSHS physicians
- Receives all returned consults for specialist and verifies that all forms are returned to the clinic by support center
- Does all the research and prepares new consult for BSHS physicians.
- Review and coordinates all consults with all necessary staff involved to include preprocedure care such as medications, labs, and other information needed prior to procedure.
- Enters new consultations in Electronic Charting systems
- Audit consults orders on a daily basis.
- Review daily laboratory results researches high, low results and medications before presenting them to physicians.
- Reviews daily x-rays results and provides results to Participant Managers.
- Answers telephone and provides messages regarding participant’s health status or concerns, and/or any interventions provided to designated team members. (Triage calls).
- Cross trains to provide coverage for medication and treatment nurses.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Clinic Manager.

- Must possess knowledge of theory and practice.
- Strong knowledge base and keen understanding and appreciation of the elderly.
- The ability to present to the community philosophy of community-based long term care of the elderly.
- The skill to work collectively and communicate effectively with staff, participants and family members.
- Adaptable to work with the interdisciplinary team approach to care for the elderly.
- The ability to accept supervisor in an appropriate manner.
- Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) required.
- Possess strong Computer skills.
Required Experience
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- A graduate of an accredited nursing program with a license to practice in the state of Texas as a Vocational Nurse.
- One year of related experience giving medications, preferably to a frail or elderly population.
