** Position Summary:**
**** The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons in the retirement community and health center.
Responsibilities:
- Explains procedures and treatments to resident to gain cooperation, understanding, and alleviate apprehension.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques/standards of practice, document appropriately in the electronic medical record. Maintain knowledgeable of medications common action, usual dosage, and side effects.
- Prepares equipment and aids Physician during examination and/or treatment of resident.
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of resident.
- Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
- Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Observes residents and documents accordingly in the electronic medical record.
- Conducts investigations of resident incidents/accidents, provides immediate interventions as needed.
- Assist the RN in participating in the care plan process.
- Conducts community required admission observations and routine observations and documents in the electronic medical record.
- Notifies the resident’s physician, and representative with change of condition. Notifies supervisor of change in condition when warranted.
- Provides resident family education/teaching and documents accordingly in the clinical record.
- Provides resident activity of daily living (ADL) support as needed.
- Participates in quality improvement activities.
