    Job Title: Construction Material Estimator

    Location: Auburn, WA

    Reports to: Operation Manager

    Job Summary:

    The Construction Material Estimator at Ironmill Fastners & Hardware will play a critical role in providing precise material estimates for contractors, builders, and other clients in the construction industry.

    This position focuses on accurately assessing material needs for projects involving foundation supplies, framing hardware, structural steel, windows, doors, flooring, trim, and additional construction materials offered by the company.

    The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction processes and materials, excellent analytical skills, and experience with estimating software to support customer projects and drive sales.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Material Estimation & Analysis
    • Review and interpret customer project plans, blueprints, and specifications to generate detailed material estimates.

    • Calculate and itemize required quantities and associated costs for various construction materials, including foundation items, framing hardware, windows, doors, flooring, and trim.

    • Continuously update estimates based on revisions to project plans and specifications.

    1. Customer Support & Consultation
    • Provide direct support to contractors, project managers, and other clients by recommending products and materials to meet project needs and budget requirements.

    • Assist in interpreting construction plans to provide accurate product and material recommendations, ensuring customer satisfaction and project success.

    • Respond to customer inquiries and proactively follow up on submitted estimates to help convert estimates into sales.

    1. Pricing & Vendor Coordination
    • Work closely with the purchasing team to obtain accurate and competitive pricing from vendors for key materials.

    • Develop an understanding of bulk pricing strategies, seasonal pricing fluctuations, and alternative material options to ensure competitive estimates.

    • Support the purchasing team by forecasting demand for materials based on project trends.

    1. Documentation & Reporting
    • Prepare clear, detailed estimate documents for customer reference and project tracking.

    • Maintain organized records of estimates, changes, and communications with customers for easy reference and reporting.

    • Assist in tracking pricing data and trends to help the company stay competitive within the market.

    1. Collaboration & Communication
    • Collaborate with sales and purchasing teams to align material offerings and pricing with current inventory and supplier relationships.

    • Act as a resource to internal teams by sharing insights on product usage, materials performance, and customer feedback.

    • Attend team meetings to stay informed of inventory, lead times, and new products, enabling the creation of up-to-date and accurate estimates.

    1. Market Trends & Product Knowledge
    • Stay informed about market trends, new products, and advancements in building materials to provide customers with up-to-date information.

    • Regularly research alternative materials and products that may provide cost or performance benefits to customers.

    Qualifications:

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Estimation, or related field preferred.

    Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in material estimating within the construction or building supply industry.

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in construction estimating software (such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar).

    • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, for data analysis and estimate preparation.

    • Familiarity with interpreting construction blueprints and project plans.

    Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction materials and processes; familiarity with local building codes a plus.

    Abilities:

    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Strong communication and customer service skills.

    • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

    Working Conditions:

    • Primarily office-based with potential travel to meet with key clients or vendors as needed.

    • Regular interaction with sales, purchasing, and inventory teams.
