    The Business Development Representative plays a vital role in driving census growth and brand visibility for a mental health and addiction treatment center. This individual is responsible for identifying, developing, and maintaining referral relationships with healthcare providers, hospitals, private practices, social workers, treatment professionals, and community organizations. The Business Development Representative serves as a passionate advocate for the organization’s services and works closely with the admissions, clinical, and executive teams to ensure alignment of strategic growth initiatives with ethical, patient-centered care.

    Referral Development & Management

    Identify and establish referral partnerships with hospitals, detox centers, psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, interventionists, and other healthcare providers.

    Conduct regular outreach calls, emails, and in-person visits to cultivate relationships and communicate the facility’s value proposition.

    Coordinate presentations, lunch-and-learns, and educational meetings with referral partners.

    Serve as a liaison between referral sources and the admissions team to ensure a seamless intake process.

    Track referral source activity, lead conversion rates, and referral volume via CRM tools.

    Census Growth & Strategic Targeting

    Collaborate with leadership to set census goals and territory outreach plans.

    Analyze market trends and identify high-value referral opportunities in the behavioral health and substance use disorder landscape.

    Participate in the development of marketing strategies and outreach materials to support lead generation efforts.

    Deliver monthly reporting on outreach activity, admissions funnel performance, and referral trends.

    Community Outreach & Brand Representation

    Represent the organization at conferences, community events, networking groups, and professional associations.

    Promote the organization’s mission and services through public speaking, tabling events, and community education initiatives.

    Develop partnerships with local nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, veteran services, employee assistance programs, and first responder groups.

    Distribute print collateral, brochures, business cards, and branded materials in strategic locations.

    Cross-Department Collaboration

    Work closely with the admissions and clinical teams to stay informed on program updates, patient capacity, insurance types accepted, and eligibility criteria.

    Provide real-time feedback from the field to help improve services, marketing messaging, and patient experience.

    Coordinate with the marketing team to align messaging, ensure digital lead follow-up, and support campaigns through in-person activation.

    CRM & Reporting

    Maintain detailed documentation of all outreach activities, contact lists, and referral communications in CRM (e.g., Salesforce, Kipu, or other platforms).

    Monitor KPIs such as leads generated, conversion rates, average length of stay from referral, and source ROI.

    Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reports for the leadership team.

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, psychology, social work, healthcare administration, or a related field required.

    Equivalent relevant experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.

    Experience:

    2+ years of experience in business development, community outreach, marketing, or admissions—preferably within a behavioral health, mental health, or addiction treatment setting.

    Prior working experience and extensive knowledge of the continuum of care for mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorder programs (detox, residential, PHP, IOP, outpatient) is REQUIRED

    Established network of local referral sources is REQUIRED

    Comfortable with travel, both local and regional, as needed.

    Additional Requirements:

    Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

    Flexibility to attend after-hours or weekend events when necessary.

    Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

    Working Conditions:

    Field-based with regular travel to referral locations, events, and external meetings.

    Occasional remote or on-site office work for reporting and meetings.

    Fast-paced, mission-driven environment with emotionally sensitive subject matter.
