The Business Development Manager is a key leadership role responsible for driving lead generation, managing strategic relationships, and overseeing the entire Business Development Department. This individual will have a seat on the leadership team, contribute to company-wide strategy, and lead, manage, and hold accountable (LMA) all business development team members.
The ultimate goal of this position is to consistently generate the targeted number of leads required for the company to meet its sales and revenue objectives. This individual will develop and maintain high-value referral relationships, engage in strategic business development activities, and execute plans to expand the company’s reach and reputation in the restoration industry.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and hold accountable (LMA) all business development team members, ensuring they meet individual and team objectives
- Build, train, and scale a high-performing business development team that delivers measurable results.
- Develop and implement clear sales processes, reporting structures, and KPIs to track success and ensure alignment with company goals
- Serve as a key voice on the leadership team, contributing strategic insights and solutions to company-wide challenges.
- Own the company’s lead generation strategy—ensuring that the business receives the targeted number of leads on a consistent and predictable basis
- Identify, cultivate, and nurture relationships with key referral partners, including plumbers, insurance agents, public adjusters, property managers, and general contractors
- Conduct business development presentations and industry events to attract new referral partners and expand relationships with existing partners
- Develop Emergency Restoration Plans (ERPs) for larger commercial accounts to establish long-term, high-value relationships.
- Regularly visit job sites for plumber-caused losses, representing the referral partner’s interests and strengthening relationships in the field
- Strategically solicit and secure larger loss opportunities, ensuring the business maximizes high-margin projects
- Personally manage and maintain top-tier referral accounts to ensure a steady pipeline of high-quality leads
- Develop, oversee, and execute relationship-building activities such as networking events, fishing trips, snowboarding excursions, shooting events, golf outings, and other industry-specific activities to engage key partners
- Implement a structured account management plan to track engagement, referral activity, and ongoing relationship development with referral sources.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for business development and lead generation, adjusting strategies as needed to meet or exceed goals
- Provide regular reports and insights to the leadership team on business development performance, market trends, and strategic opportunities
- Collaborate with marketing and operations teams to align business development efforts with the company’s overall strategy.
- Responsible for achieving company sales targets and update management on the status of accounts
- Opportunities for growth and potential to oversee sales staff
- Maintain a professional, ethical, and positive disposition as a primary representative of the company in the community
- Complete weekly and monthly sales reports in a timely manner
- Attend weekly sales meetings
- Regularly attend client meetings, trade shows, networking events, conferences, etc.
- Maintain customer contact database
- Make group presentations to prospect organizations
- Integrate sales efforts with other organized marketing activities (promotions, advertising, exhibitions, telemarketing, social media marketing, etc.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years proven sales experience in a business development role, preferably outside sales
- Industry knowledge or the ability to seek knowledge if new to the industry
- Results-driven and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to multitask with a sense of urgency to make things happen
- Proven ability in creating and maintaining relationships with teammates and clients a must
- Strong communication, problem solving, and negotiations skills
- Self-motivated, trustworthy, confident, and organized
