    Job Description

    About the Position:

    Dunn Lumber is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Buyer with a strong emphasis on inventory management to join our procurement team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in selecting and sourcing hardware and building material products, ensuring optimal inventory levels, and maintaining efficient inventory management processes. This position requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with suppliers and internal teams.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Product Selection and Sourcing:
      • Identify, evaluate, and select hardware/building materials that meet quality standards and market demands.
      • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to develop category strategies that align with business objectives.
      • Attend trade shows and industry events to identify trends, source new products, and maintain a competitive edge.
    • Vendor Management :
      • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, negotiating contracts to ensure competitive pricing and terms.
      • Manage vendor performance and lead continuous improvement initiatives to meet quality and efficiency goals.
      • Establish strategies for sourcing to enhance cost savings and product availability.
    • Inventory Management:
      • Monitor and optimize inventory levels to reduce overstock and minimize stockouts.
      • Implement and oversee inventory control strategies, including physical inventory requirements and turnover tracking.
      • Utilize inventory management software to analyze KPIs such as turnover rates, fill rates, and stockout percentages.
    • Order Processing:
      • Create, manage, and track purchase orders to ensure accuracy and timely delivery.
      • Negotiate settlements for defective or rejected items to minimize losses.
    • Reporting and Analysis:
      • Conduct in-depth analysis of sales data, market trends, and customer preferences to identify opportunities and risks.
      • Utilize data-driven insights to optimize assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies.
      • Prepare reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, and cost analysis.
    • Category and Product Lifecycle Management:
      • ​​​​​​​ Develop, implement, and manage category strategies to meet short- and long-term growth targets.
      • Oversee the product lifecycle, including pre-season planning, in-season forecasting, and post-season analysis.
      • Manage category assortments by recommending promotions, new product introductions, item discontinuations, and pricing adjustments.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
      • Work closely with other departments, including sales, marketing, and merchandising teams to align strategies and ensure seamless execution.
  • Qualifications

    Previous Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement, with a focus on inventory management, preferably within the retail hardware or building materials industry.

    Skills:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of material management and procurement function
    • Skill in analyzing market trends
    • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and technical skills to interpret data, analyze trends, and provide solutions
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise resource planning (ERP) program

    Certifications : Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or similar certification is a plus.

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to some lifting and moving of products and objects. Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 30 pounds of force frequently, and /or in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Work Environment: Office-based with occasional travel to Dunn Lumber stores, supplier sites, and vendor locations. This is not a remote position. Must have a reliable personal vehicle. (Mileage is reimbursed)

    Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm
