We are seeking an energetic Day Program Direct Support to join our team! As a Day Program Direct Support, you will work with clients with intellectual or physical disabilities, supporting clients in the community and assisting in activities of daily living and skills, and recreation. while also maintaining best standards of care and safety and promoting positive experiences and interactions in the community. Your goal is to recognize their individual needs and assist them. The ideal candidate is compassionate, creative, and dedicated to helping clients reach their full potential.

Responsibilities:

Positive community interactions

Ensure access to community resources based on interests, and preferences

Clear and positive written and verbal communication towards team members, day program participants, and providers

Assist people, including those with physical or intellectual disabilities, with entering, seating, and exciting vehicle/bus/passenger van

Loads backpack with supplies for daily activities

Observes and assist people in day program with activities of daily living, including, eating, toileting and daily hygiene

Participates in daily activities, including games, swimming, art projects, music, gardening, bowling, dance, cooking, exercise, and volunteering in the community

Monitor social behaviors and instructs and models acceptable alternatives

Assist in warming up or preparing lunches

Clean and prepare activities for the day and upcoming days or activities

Clean and disinfect daily all areas/vehicles used

Accurately and daily follow ISSP goals, and care plans implemented for each individual

Document daily all notes, ISSP goals, care plans, health notes, and incident reports

Attend staff meetings

Participate in training courses and maintain required certifications required by the agency

Follow agency policies and procedures

Reliable and regular attendance

Other Responsibilities:

Assists in distributing medications to induvial and prove assistance as needed. Willing to obtain certification

Administer G-tube and J-tube protocols, as neeeded

May need to shovel snow to permit access to people who utilize wheelchairs or other adaptive equipment

May assist with changing oxygen tanks

Qualifications:

Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities

Verbal and written communication skills

Ability to communicate with people with disabilities, co-workers, community members, providers and families

Computer skills sufficient to complete reports, and track activity-related information

Ability to lift 50lbs

Ability to transfer people from a wheelchair to various positions and locations

Ability to assist people with mobility as needed

Ability to work with limited supervision in the completion of job duties

Skill in dealing in a positive manner with varied personalities

Time management and flexibility skills required in the management of the activities

Experience:

Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but willing to train

Working Environment:

Work indoors and outdoors in all weather

Lifting 50lbs

Assisting with toileting, waste, and sanitizing chemicals

Pushing wheelchairs

Operating wheelchair lift

Regular standing, sitting, walking, some stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, and reaching

Some driving may be required
