OVERVIEW
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) Commercial Lending role is responsible for evaluating and structuring commercial loan transactions. In addition to being a primary point of contact for commercial loan prospects, the position includes broader objectives including relationship selectivity, acquisition and deepening existing relationships through cross-selling, driving relationship profitability and satisfaction. This role also helps to develop the overall relationship strategy through a thorough analysis of risks, opportunities and impacts to the bank, and is responsible for supporting and coordinating client team members through the loan production process.
The AVP of Commercial Lending will actively solicit new loans and loan relationships for the Bank and will effectively evaluate the financial condition and operating history of the businesses applying for financing. Most loan transactions will be focused on originating, underwriting and structuring commercial real estate transactions. This will entail being responsible for overseeing the vetting, preliminary underwriting and structuring of new commercial real estate lending opportunities which will including obtaining, compiling, and analyzing appropriate borrower and guarantor financial information and other data on prospective customers to determine desirability in preparation for submitting to Credit Department for full underwriting. Interaction and presentation to the VP of Loan Origination, Chief Credit Officer, President and other executives of the Bank will be required.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
PRIMARY ROLES
· Screen and interview new loan applicants, collect and analyze financial and related data to establish creditworthiness, establish and negotiate, when necessary, credit terms and continually monitor Borrower performance. Present prescreens to appropriate internal parties.
· Provide customer loan commitments (“LOIs”) and work closely with credit to ensure all conditions are met per approvals and follows loan through a timely closing.
· Interact with the Bank’s Credit Department as necessary to assist with completion of underwriting including, ensuring appropriate loan structure, pricing, covenants, collateral adequacy, etc. Assist Credit Department (if needed) in facilitating loan closing, obtaining current financial statements & other relevant information annually to facilitate timely annual reviews.
· Work with portfolio team to ensure timely completion of credit file commentary and collection of annual financial information for analysis.
· Coordinate with various divisions and departments (Branches, Operations, etc.) in the servicing of routine transactions and maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitors’ products and pricing in the market served.
· Develop and maintain a network of professional relationships and referral sources to include brokers, accountants, attorneys, and other centers of influence to enhance generation of new business.
· Participate in civic, social and community relations activities to promote and strengthen the image of the bank within the Bank's footprint and reasonable proximity.
· Involvement in local C3bank events including onsite branch events, business networking events and other client interaction events
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Requires a bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, or related field.
· Minimum 5 years’ experience in commercial real estate, C&I and SBA loan underwriting.
· Knowledge of commercial lending origination and structuring, with a focus on commercial real estate and C&I.
· Extensive knowledge and experience in sourcing, creating, growing, and fostering relationships in a professional setting.
· Superior credit analysis skills. In particular, analysis and compilation of financial statements and review of tax returns for business entities and individuals.
· Broad knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards applicable to commercial lending. Including regulatory risk ratings, underwriting/structuring expectations, and consumer compliance requirements.
· Excellent customer service skills, communication skills, both written and verbal, and presentation skills.
· Excellent knowledge of sales, branch banking services and products (i.e., deposits, cash management, loans and other fee income generating products).
· Strong interpersonal communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment and on a collaborative basis.
· Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume workflow.
· Desire to work in a dynamic and challenging environment characterized by sometimes changing priorities and short-term deadlines.
· Must be detail oriented.
· Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) proficiency. Strong excel skills
