    CDL Drivers – Job Overview

    As a Professional CDL Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating buses along designated routes in Duval, Clay, St. Johns, and Nassau counties. Drivers must follow time schedules, route charts, and special service requests while ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers. Responsibilities may vary depending on the route, equipment, and specific passenger needs.

    Key Responsibilities for CDL Drivers:

    • Safely and efficiently operate buses, adhering to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies.
    • Provide excellent customer service by offering clear, polite, and professional assistance to passengers.
    • Follow strict safety protocols and time schedules to ensure smooth and timely operations on each route.
    • Provide passengers with information regarding routes, schedules, fares, and other general transit inquiries.
    • Assist passengers who require special assistance, including operating lifts and ramps for wheelchair access.
    • Monitor fare collection, ensuring passengers use the correct tickets or passes.
    • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus.
    • Complete required documentation for any accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues, and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
    • Maintain communication with dispatch, supervisors, and emergency services via radio as necessary.

    Compliance Requirements:

    • Adhere to ADA regulations concerning public transit services.
    • Complete all required training and certifications as mandated.
    • Follow all company policies, procedures, and directives.

    Required Qualifications for CDL Drivers:

    • Minimum age of 24 years.
    • Valid Florida CDL Class A, B, or C license with a Passenger endorsement.
    • Clean driving record with no more than two traffic violations in the last 5 years or three years of a violation-free record.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous commercial driving experience.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of Florida traffic laws and safe driving practices.
    • Ability to follow directions and communicate with supervisors or dispatch via radio.
    • Capable of maintaining accurate records and clearly communicating via radio.
    • Understanding of or ability to quickly learn public transit rules and regulations.
    • Proficient in operating passenger buses safely and efficiently.
    • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, especially in emergency or challenging passenger situations.
    • Ability to familiarize oneself with the city’s geography.
    • Courteous and helpful when assisting passengers.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands for CDL Drivers:

    • Flexibility in work schedule, including split shifts, split days off, and varying hours.
    • Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including exposure to fumes and vapors.
    • Physical demands include lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing doors, windows, emergency hatches, and operating wheelchair lifts.
    • Must be capable of bending, kneeling, squatting, and twisting.
    • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving the bus.
