    Job Description

    DeAngelo Contracting Services (DCS) is looking for a highly motivated and skilled CDL Hi-Rail Technician with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and extensive mechanical knowledge, combined with a commitment to safety. This role involves applying herbicide to various railroad locations, as well as managing truck and equipment maintenance needs.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Oversee all assigned jobs and contracts.
    • Apply herbicides to control weeds, grass, and brush on railroad tracks.
    • Plan and schedule daily routes.
    • Mix herbicide tanks.
    • Conduct truck inspections and ensure proper maintenance and repair of trucks and spray systems.
    • Calibrate all spraying equipment.
    • Ensure all work adheres to strict safety protocols.
    • Maintain accurate daily and weekly records.
    • Serve as the main point of contact for customers.
    • Address customer or public complaints.
    • Report any potential liabilities immediately.
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of weed, grass, and brush types.
    • Have a comprehensive understanding of the chemicals used, their effects, and all related safety procedures.
    • Be proficient in application methods, equipment, and calibration to ensure proper spray patterns.

    EDUCATION:

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Must be 21 years of age or older.
    • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with at least 5 years of clean driving history.
    • Tanker and air brake endorsements are required.
    • Ability to travel away from home for up to 4-6 weeks at a time (hotel accommodations and per-diem paid by DCS).
    • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, DOT physical, and background check to work on railroad property.
    • Commercial Pesticide Applicator License is preferred.
    • Most work is Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM, with some days requiring 10 to 12-hour shifts. Weekend or night shifts may be needed.
    • Occasional travel to offices during breaks to leave trucks/equipment for routine maintenance.
    • Hours may vary based on weather conditions and workload.
    • Spraying duties are seasonal and align with the regional office schedule.
    • Must adhere to the company’s drug and alcohol policy.

    DeAngelo Contracting Services provides paid training to help employees succeed in their roles. Training includes:

    • Identifying different weed, grass, and brush species.
    • Understanding which chemicals effectively control various plant species.
    • Safe operation of application equipment.
    • Various application methods used in the field.
    • Equipment maintenance and care.
