    CDL Shuttle Drivers – Job Overview

    As a Professional CDL Shuttle Driver, you will be entrusted with the safe operation of buses along designated routes across Duval, Clay, St. Johns, and Nassau counties. Your role will involve adhering to time schedules, route charts, and specific service requests, while prioritizing passenger safety and comfort. Duties may vary based on the route, equipment, and the needs of passengers.

    Key Responsibilities of a CDL Shuttle Drivers:

    • Operate buses safely and efficiently, following all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies.
    • Deliver exceptional customer service with clear, respectful, and professional communication with passengers.
    • Adhere to strict safety protocols and time schedules to ensure smooth operations on each route.
    • Provide passengers with information about routes, schedules, fares, and other general transit inquiries.
    • Assist passengers with special needs, including using lifts and ramps for wheelchair access.
    • Monitor fare collection to ensure passengers are using valid tickets or passes.
    • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the bus.
    • Complete required reports for accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues, and take appropriate action in emergencies.
    • Maintain communication with dispatch, supervisors, and emergency services via radio as needed.

    Compliance Requirements of a CDL Shuttle Drivers:

    • Follow ADA regulations related to public transit services.
    • Complete all required training and certifications as mandated.
    • Comply with company policies, procedures, and guidelines.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 24 years of age.
    • Hold a valid Florida CDL Class A, B, or C license with a Passenger endorsement.
    • Clean driving record, with no more than two traffic violations in the past 5 years, or three years of violation-free driving.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience in commercial driving.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • Familiarity with Florida traffic laws and safe driving practices.
    • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with dispatch and supervisors via radio.
    • Strong record-keeping abilities and clear communication skills.
    • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, public transit rules and regulations.
    • Proficient in the safe and efficient operation of passenger buses.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Problem-solving ability, particularly in emergency or challenging passenger situations.
    • Familiarity with the city’s geography.
    • Friendly and helpful demeanor when assisting passengers.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands:

    • Flexible work schedule, including split shifts, varying hours, and split days off.
    • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions, including exposure to fumes and vapors.
    • Physical requirements include lifting up to 25 pounds, operating doors, windows, emergency hatches, and wheelchair lifts.
    • Capability to bend, kneel, squat, and twist as needed.
    • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving the bus.

    Safety Requirements & Notifications:

    • As a public transit provider, WHC follows Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
