    Our client is the largest government agency in Los Angeles County with over 30 departments in the County.

     

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Senior Programmer is responsible for leading and working on complex IT application design, documentation, development, testing, installation, implementation, and support of both new and existing software applications. This role includes planning, configuring, testing, implementing, and managing system environments to support organizational IT architecture and business needs.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Developing application software: analyzing requirements, designing system architecture, coding, debugging, user interface design, and ensuring software quality and functionality.
    • Supporting operating systems: analyzing requirements, configuring software environments, integrating hardware and software, monitoring system performance, and implementing security policies.

      In both application development and operating systems, the Senior Programmer ensures adherence to security protocols, maintains program documentation, evaluates new technologies, and collaborates with customers to test and refine applications.

       

      Skills Required:

      The Senior Programmer should have extensive experience in software development, covering the full cycle from design to implementation. This includes proficiency in operating system installation, configuration, and optimization, along with a strong grasp of database management, data modeling, and transaction processing. They must understand system engineering concepts like reliability, scalability, and maintainability, as well as be familiar with relevant regulations and infrastructure needs. Additionally, the role requires strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively, along with clear verbal and written communication abilities for documentation and reporting.

      Skills Preferred:

    • Expertise in supporting ERP CGI Advantage (versions 3.11 and 4.x) and relational databases.
    • Skilled in designing and implementing technical solutions for complex ERP applications, including batch and real-time integrations.
    • Proficient in relational database management (PL/SQL, Toad, Oracle SQL Developer) and scripting for task automation.

      Experienced in:

    • Batch job scheduling (similar to Control-M)
    • File transfers (e.g., FileZilla)
    • SFTP clients on Unix, Linux, and Windows
    • Knowledgeable in:
    • Integration tools (PDI9, Pentaho) for interface mapping
    • File comparison tools (e.g., Beyond Compare)
    • Operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows)
    • Familiarity with Agile Scrum, Jira, Confluence, ticket management systems, and Microsoft Office.
    • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to engage with both technical and business stakeholders effectively.

      Work Experience Required:

      This classification must have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in electronic data processing systems study, design, and programming. At least four (4) years of that experience must have been in a lead capacity.


      Work Experience Preferred:

    • 1 year experience with CGI Advantage 4.x upgrade.
    • 2 years experience with integration tools PDI9 and Pentaho.
    • 3 years experience in:
      • Supporting CGI Advantage 3.11 Financial applications.
      • Developing and maintaining Unix scripts and PL/SQL modules.
      • Evaluating systems and processes for performance improvements.
      • Collaborating with IT teams to implement solutions.
      • Managing tasks on enterprise scheduling systems.
      • Maintaining technical documentation.
      • Using FTP/SFTP for file-based integration.
      • Analyzing and resolving code, data file differences, and platform issues.
      • Production support and issue resolution.


        Education/Training Required:

        This classification requires the possession of a bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or Engineering field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

        Education/Training Preferred:

        Bachelor's degree in an IT related or Engineering field.
