    Sixth Sense Designs, LLC is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated multi-axis machinist

    Compensation Range: $55,000-$85,000 (Comp DOE)

    We are expanding and are looking to grow our staff with a highly motivated experienced Sr Multi-Axis Machinist.

    Our customers span a diverse range of industries like automotive aftermarket, defense, consumer medical, and sporting goods. This role requires an ability to quickly prototype parts and prepare them for subsequent production runs.

    The CNC Machinist is responsible for working with computer numeric controlled (CNC) machines from programming to set-up, to operation to producing parts and tools from metal, plastic or other exotic materials like Inconel. Candidate must be a strong programmer with 4-6 years of strong multi-axis programming, strong Lathe and Mill set-up skills, and ability to operate multiple machines simultaneously. Candidate must be efficient and be able to quickly provide estimates for custom quotes and be able to meet committed delivery dates. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and great mentorship skills to train shop hands and interns as needed. Must be comfortable working in an environment that changes rapidly and is fast paced.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Produce complex machined parts by programming, setting up and operating a CNC Mill and/or CNC Lathe and or EDM wire machine
    • Read and understand multi-axis CNC programs, challenging layouts and customer drawings
    • Inspect machined parts (first article)
    • Maintain high quality and safety standards
    • Complete daily production/quality logs/travelers
    • Maintain material certificates
    • Hold other team members to a high caliber of performance

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to read and understand complex mechanical drawings or models (Mastercam/Solidworks or PDF’s)
    • Must be able to read and interpret drawings per Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) ANSI Y14.5 Standards. (1982 and 1994 Baseline)
    • Responsible for complete, accurate and compliant documentation
    • Comfortable working in an ISO9001 environment and embraces continuous improvement
    • Must be proficient in advanced G-Code and M-Code programming with the ability to troubleshoot, edit, prove out new processes, perform first piece runs, and recommend changes to programs on multi-axis machine tools quickly and proficiently
    • Must possess strong experience with feeds and speeds for complex materials
    • Ability to use inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) as needed
    • Ability to hold exceptionally tight tolerances
    • Strong verbal communications skills with peers, leaders, and customers
    • Programming experience/knowledge is helpful, Mastercam 2019 or newer experience is a requirement
    • Must be able to develop de-bug processes, equipment, or tool issues quickly.
    • Must be self-sufficient and willing to work to demanding schedules and maintain high quality and first pass yield metrics
    • Able to lift materials not exceeding 75lbs
    • Develop, train and provide technical support to less experienced CNC Operators.
    • Responsible for quick turnaround support and potential rework when required
    • Collaborate and advise design team on design for manufacturability.
    • Write instruction sheets and tool lists to guides set-up and operation of the machining centers
    • Aid in the training of production operators on the use of new CNC machine control and tools
    • Computer literate. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), working knowledge of MS SharePoint

    Education and Experience

    • 2-year vocational degree in machining field and/or equivalent experience and education
    • Minimum 8-12 years of precision machining direct work-related experience
    • Strong experience with Haas controllers is a must
    • Strong familiarity with high-speed machining for mills is important and ability to program live tooling for HAAS Lathes is a requirement.

    Salary info:

    $26 - $40 / hr
