    General Description: The Covenant Academies Foundation operates year-round, public charter high schools offering a traditional high school diploma to dropout and at-risk students ages 15-22. Covenant Academies is seeking a collaborative, dedicated, and caring individual to teach English learning students individually and in small groups both inside and outside of the general classroom setting. This teacher will serve as the second language specialist within the district team by maintaining a high knowledge base of the latest research, laws, best practices, and issues within the field.

    Covenant Academies is open to discussions regarding flexible scheduling (hours, days, etc).

    Primary Teaching Responsibilities

    • Effectively communicate and develop positive relationships with parents, students, and staff Make recommendations to staff regarding accommodations, adaptations, resources, course, classes and classroom adjustments appropriate for each EL student.
    • Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
    • Plan and implement lessons based upon school objectives and students' abilities
    • Implement all procedures of the EL Program as prescribed in all manuals and written communication
    • Establish and maintain a daily routine suitable for students' needs and adjust as needed
    • Maintain appropriate and required student documentation
    • Administer state and federal assessments required for EL learners
    • Supervise and coordinate EL paraprofessionals as assigned
    • Operate a personal computer and related software
    • Effectively function and regularly collaborate as a member of an instructional team
    • Excellent work attendance required
    • Must work well with minimum supervision
    • All other duties assigned

    Essential Skills and Abilities

    • Must possess servant leadership qualities and demonstrate excellent customer service skills, both in verbal and written formats, to all stakeholders
    • Ability to understand the needs of dropout, homeless and youth with extreme barriers that the academy serves with sensitivity and compassion
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions
    • Receptive to professional learning on a regular basis
    • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes and growth
    • Ability to impact student achievement through mentoring, motivation, and monitoring practices

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Must hold a valid State of Michigan secondary teaching certificate with NS or YF endorsement
    • Experience teaching elementary or secondary language learners or in a formal ESL/ELD program preferred
    • Experience working with K-12 and EL students preferred
    • Fluent speaker and writer of both Spanish and English preferred
    • Ability to teach students basic or advanced English language skills
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Excellent oral/written communication skills
    • Must be able to pass a background check
    • Passion for working with at-risk youth in a blended learning setting

    *Covenant Academies offers a generous benefit package including health insurance with employer contributed HSA, matching 401K, generous PTO with additional PTO hours during the summer months. During the summer, there is no school on Friday and no school during the last week of June and first two weeks of July. The school follows the common calendar of the local ISD.
