    Meharry Medical College seeks expressions of interest for a dynamic health policy scholar in the Center for Health Policy. Successful candidates will serve as the inaugural Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Endowed Chair of Health Policy, an innovative position that will help create a national model for the delivery of inter-professional training for aspiring health policy students and working health professionals.

     

    Meharry Medical College is one of the nation’s oldest and largest historically black academic health science centers dedicated to educating physicians, dentists, researchers, and health policy experts. Located in Nashville, TN and founded in 1876 as the Medical Department of Central Tennessee College, Meharry was the first medical school in the South for African Americans and is a United Methodist Church-affiliated institution. The Endowed Chair will develop, implement and oversee a research program that aligns the strengths of the College with extramural resources.

     

    The successful candidate will fulfill three pivotal initiatives of the Center for Health Policy: 1) enhance the research enterprise in the area of health policy; 2) train and advise students to become health policy leaders in the areas of health disparities and health equity; and 3) establish sustained relationships with external organizations, inclusive of institutions and/or foundations. The Chair will also be expected to mentor junior faculty and collaborate with college faculty and researchers to broaden the scope of the Center for Health Policy on campus.

    Required Skills

    Applicants must have the following qualifications: 1) doctoral degree in a health discipline, 2) Experience conducting health related research with vulnerable and underserved populations, 3) Stellar track record of scholarly publications, 4) Robust track record of attaining extramural funding, and 5) Familiarity with educational technologies and innovative learning.
