Job Summary
The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston''s (BGCB) volunteer services is to provide a positive and rewarding experience to those interested in volunteering a portion of their time and talents towards accomplishing the goals and objectives of BGCB, meeting the needs at our Clubs, connecting more youth with caring adults, and offering volunteers a positive, rewarding experience.
The Director of Volunteer Services is responsible for implementing the recruitment, screening, placement, retention, tracking, and evaluation protocols and database management of the department. S/he will develop clear strategies within each area to help establish a pool of volunteers to serve as direct-service, one-time, and special event volunteers. This position works closely with the Human Resources Department to ensure compliance in the areas of recruitment, screening, background checks and other relevant volunteer services as identified by the Director of Program Development and Director of Human Resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training & Retention
- Work with agency staff to develop and implement a series of training workshops designed to increase the academic, interpersonal, and communication skills of all volunteers.
- Develop training materials to enhance staff expertise on volunteer management
- Communicate regularly and work closely with site volunteer point people and Directors/Managers.
- Develop a series of retention strategies to reduce turnover and increase volunteer satisfaction during and between seasons.
- Develop and disseminate a mid-year and end-of year volunteer evaluation to all registered volunteers.
Recruitment
- Represent BGCB at volunteer information sessions.
- Develop and implement an ongoing marketing, outreach, and social media strategy to increase the public awareness of current volunteer opportunities.
- Identify current volunteer needs throughout the organization.
- Post and update all opportunities via internal/external websites.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers for organization-wide special events.
- Work with staff to identify volunteer service gaps and develop a targeted recruitment strategy response.
- Create and implement a series of events/activities to showcase volunteer opportunities and related programs.
- Maintain existing and establish new academic partnerships with local colleges/universities.
- Conduct regular orientation and training sessions for all volunteers.
- Support open house events at Clubs.
Screening & Placement
- Responsible for managing the volunteer database to ensure that all prospective volunteers receive appropriate screening checks and accurate placement assignments.
- Develop effective methods to streamline the screening and placement process while maintaining overall quality.
Development & Events
- Assist in the planning and implementation of all volunteer-related events.
- Work with the Development Department to provide volunteers for agency-wide events; specifically, work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Corporate Partners and Corporate Relations Assistant.
- Coordinate with Development to track, cultivate, solicit and steward volunteers as appropriate.
Administrative
- Attend staff and individual meetings to establish, prioritize, and assess ongoing departmental goals and objectives.
- Process background checks: References, CORI, SORI and National Background Check Information. Access and maintain confidential information
- Track all recruitment, screening, training, and retention-related spending.
- Write and submit progress reports and other related statistic reports as requested, including but not limited to the Volunteer Dashboard.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Program Development.
Required Experience
Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Work Demands)
- Bachelor''s degree with 2-3 years related experience.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Small (50-150) event planning experience.
- Internet-savvy and familiar with web-based software and applications.
- Strong experience utilizing the following: MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
- Creative thinker with excellent writing and solid verbal skills. Comfortable facilitating information sessions to both small and large groups.
- Attention to detail and high standards for presentation of written material.
- Able to work non-traditional hours, including weeknights and weekends.
- Valid drivers'' license and ability to commute throughout the Metro-Boston area regularly.
- Maintain confidentiality of all relevant volunteer information.
