  • Responsibilities

    The cashier position is critical to the daily ticket processing operation in Detroit. This position is directly responsible for all incoming payments made in person to the City of Detroit Parking Violations Bureau, where a citizen has admitted responsibility and wishes to make restitution. At the close of daily business, cashiers must balance cash collections and system transactions before submission to armored services for deposit. All deposits must balance exactly to system entries made during the business day.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Collect payments from citizens that appear in person at a local cashier window

    Issue receipts to citizens for all payments made during daily processing

    Reconcile and balance all payments made directly to you and posted during daily processing to system totals using deposit tickets

    Authenticate (signoff) total daily deposit amount before armored services pickup (total collected at the window for the day)

    Properly store, in a local safe, any funds held over from deposit for any business reason

    Delivers citizen correspondence media to the customer service department for resolution processing (incl. scanning/imaging)

    Work in a productive, safe, and cooperative manner in accordance with all project policies and procedures

    Promote and maintain a positive work environment.

    Conduct other duties and special projects as assigned.

    Experience/Qualifications/Skills

    2 + year(s) previous cash handling experience required

    Ability to count cash and other payment media accurately

    Must support customer requests, as well as other department requests as needed

    Must be able to operate office equipment (copy machines, fax, telephone, pc, mouse & keyboard, and ten key adding machine)

    Must maintain proficiency in all departmental procedures

    Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Teams)

    Education

    High school diploma or equivalent required
