This is a “hands-on” role where the Casting Process Engineer will play a vital role in the process monitoring and improvement of the vacuum investment casting process, working on the production floor and heat-treating and furnace departments. You will support manufacturing through process control and improvement initiatives, ensuring product integrity, evaluating processes and data, determining process trends and perfecting processes. Responsibilities for the Casting Process Engineer job in La Porte, IN include:
- Support manufacturing in the processing of castings through all operations.
- Maintain customer relationships through joint resolution of issues.
- Review and improve specifications and work instructions for mold wrap, mold preheat, casting, and post-cast cooling processes.
- Data analysis and research, including process performance, trends, and process improvements.
- Provide training and accreditation for departmental casting technicians.
- Offer guidance to manufacturing in the event of interrupted or incomplete processing of material.
- Direct Maintenance and Instrumentation technicians on acceptable repair and calibration for process acceptance.
- Conduct statistical analysis to ensure control of currently identified key input variables and determine future variables.
- Ensure adherence to all process specifications Maintain and improve process records.
- Serve as the quality designee for releasing equipment to production after prescribed testing.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a four-year engineering degree is required, with preference given to Materials Science Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering.
- A minimum of one year of experience in molten metal processing, with preference given to precision casting processes and superalloys.
- Experience in synchronous manufacturing and Kaizens.
- Familiarity with ISO, Nadcap, and other quality systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with nickel-based super-alloy metallurgy is also preferred.
- Experience with statistical data analysis and working knowledge of statistical tools such as Mini-Tab, SAS JMP, SAS EG, etc.
- Six Sigma Experience and Lean Manufacturing experience are a plus.
