Volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (NYS EMT)
Welcome!
You may learn about our history and life-saving mission here. General EMT-B qualifications are listed here. Specifically, however, we value members and will prioritize applicants who show evidence of:
CPMU MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS
Please read thoughtfully and completely before applying.
INTEREST. A sincere and authentic interest in EMS and serving with CPMU is a cornerstone of our membership.
COMMITMENT. Members must be available to volunteer for at least 8 consecutive hours on a given weekend day at least twice per month. New members are expected to volunteer for a minimum of two years.
PROFESSIONALISM. Responsibility, accountability, and pride in a member's work and appearance are critical. CPMU strives to meet or exceed the professional standards of paid EMS agencies regardless of our volunteer status.
PROFICIENCY. CPMU is a teaching and learning organization. Learning all of the nuances of EMS in NYC, the geography of Central Park, and making a commitment to constant improvement requires our members to have a desire to be proficient in multiple areas beyond their EMT training.
ENDURANCE. Working on a CPMU ambulance can be exciting and intense, but there are certainly tours on which members may treat few or no patients. This becomes time for training, cleaning, bonding, and—at times—sitting.
COMPASSION. For patients, no matter who they are or how they came to be ill or injured, our members must always treat patients with a high standard of care and respect.
CAMARADERIE. We are a diverse unit, filled with people from different walks of life, all contributing to CPMU's mission by serving as an EMT, but also by sharing their stories and their expertise, and helping in the equally essential, non-medical areas of the Unit. An interest and eagerness to get to know and understand each other is key to our mission and to serving patients of Central Park and New York City.
